University College of the Cayman Islands From 1976 to 1981 three other institutions - the Trade School, the Hotel School and the Marine School - were founded.

Government-sponsored tertiary education in the Cayman Islands began in 1975 when the Community College was established as a part-time institution. These schools were located at different sites and were supervised either by the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Tourism and Labour. Transition from Secondary to Tertiary: On the eve of the May-June 2025 Examinations Official Release of Results Ceremony, Dr Nicole Manning, Director of Operations, CXC® and Dr Wayne Wesley, Registrar and CEO, CXC® met with Dr. Livingston Smith, President and CEO (Ag.) and senior officials of the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI); one of the many higher education institutions poised to admit a new cohort of students in September, who will qualify for matriculation with CXC® qualifications.

The representatives discussed CXC’s new Caribbean Targeted Education Certificate (CTEC) qualification and also focused on identifying and addressing any skills or knowledge gaps among students, as they transition from the secondary to tertiary level. These insights play a key role in ensuring CXC® remains responsive and supports learners across the region on their academic and career paths.

In honour of Women’s Month, this event, hosted in partnership with UCCI, brings together leaders from Butterfield Bank, Cayman National Bank, RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, and FundBank. They’ll share real insight into careers and leadership, including how they began their journeys in banking and what it takes to rise to the top of one of the world’s most respected financial sectors.

Students from Official University College of the Cayman Islands and local high schools gathered for Women Leading in Banking and Finance, a panel discussion held in a partnership between CIBA and UCCI in recognition of Women’s Month.

The panel brought together five of Cayman’s senior women in banking and finance, including:
🎤 Amanda Bodden, SVP, Head of Retail Banking at Butterfield Bank and President of the Cayman Islands Bankers’ Association
🎤 Janet Hislop, President of Cayman National Bank Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer of Cayman National Corporation
🎤 Khadene Lobban, Vice President, Personal & Private Banking and Country Head at RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited
🎤 Chervain Stuart, Director, Retail & Small Business Banking at Scotiabank
🎤 Samantha Fletcher-Watts, Chief Risk Officer at FundBank

With opening remarks from UCCI and a discussion moderated by UCCI alumna Anya Rankin-Christian, the panel explored leadership styles, personal journeys into banking, and the qualities essential to progression in the industry. Speakers also shared perspectives on how the banking sector is evolving and the opportunities ahead for the next generation.
