Yoo Yeon-seok Appointed Professor at 세종대학교 Sejong University
Yoo Yeon-seok (real name Ahn Yeon-seok), a trusted actor, will stand at the podium of Sejong University, his alma mater, to mentor aspiring actors.
According to Sejong University, Yoo will be appointed as a special appointment professor in the Film and Arts Department starting from the first semester of the 2026 academic year. This appointment holds special significance as Yoo returns to his alma mater, where he completed both undergraduate and graduate studies, to nurture future talents. He has consistently participated in special lectures for freshmen and homecoming events, demonstrating his deep affection for his juniors.
Yoo, who debuted in 2003 through Park Chan-wook’s film “Oldboy,” is a seasoned actor entering his 23rd year in the industry. After rising to stardom as Chil-bong in the drama “Reply 1994,” he solidified his status as a top actor through diverse roles in “Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim,” “Mr. Sunshine,” “Hospital Playlist,” and “Suriname,” showcasing his versatility across genres.
Sejong University expects Yoo’s extensive field experience and solid acting philosophy to provide practical guidance to students in the Film and Arts Department. The key aspect of this appointment is that students will receive firsthand insights from an active industry professional, transcending mere theoretical education.
Yoo will conduct lectures under his real name, Ahn Yeon-seok. As a special appointment professor, he will directly instruct the senior-year course “Multimedia Performance” in the acting major during the first semester of 2026. This course focuses on developing actors’ adaptability across media environments, from theater and musicals to films and dramas.
A source from Sejong University stated, “Yoo is not only a talented actor but also a role model for juniors in terms of diligence and character. His appointment will elevate the department’s reputation and serve as strong motivation for students.”
Yoo is a versatile artist whose stage acting has been proven through musicals like “Hedwig” and “A Gentleman’s Guide.” By expanding into education, he continues his multifaceted career.
Students are already excited about the arrival of “Professor Ahn.” A Film and Arts Department student said, “It feels like a dream to receive acting guidance from a senior we’ve only seen on screen.”
Meanwhile, Yoo’s upcoming SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Law Office of the Gods,” premiering next Friday (13th) at 9:50 p.m., will showcase his new acting transformation as Shin Yi-rang, a lawyer who passionately resolves the grudges of the deceased.
