⚡️ CATCH. REDIRECT. ROTATE. 🚀
Lindy Hop Level 3 | Pop Turns, Redirects & Over-Rotation

🎬 [Triple Crown] Lindy Hop Level 3 Recap

What if you stopped thinking of Lindy Hop as a collection of patterns?

In this Level 3 class, we explored how to catch existing momentum, redirect its energy, and transform it into the next movement.

From Tuck Turn catches and Pop Turns to Reverse Circles and an Over-Rotated Swing Out, the goal wasn’t simply to learn more moves.

It was to understand WHY the next movement becomes possible.

📝 CLASS RECAP

1. Tuck Turn → Catch → Send Back
2. Side Pass → Lindy Circle
3. Tuck Turn → Catch → To Leader’s Side
4. Pop Turn
5. Pop Turn → Follower Catch → Reverse Circle → Send Out
6. Side Pass → Leader Jump
7. Over-Rotate Swing Out → Switch

💡 CHAMPION’S INSIGHT

① CATCH THE MOMENTUM ⚡️
A Catch doesn’t always mean “stop.”

Instead of killing the momentum, receive it and use that energy to create a new direction.

② REDIRECT, DON’T RESTART 🔀
One movement can naturally generate the next.

When you understand redirection, combinations like Pop Turn → Reverse Circle begin to feel like one continuous movement rather than separate patterns.

③ CONTROL THE ROTATION 🔄
An Over-Rotated Swing Out isn’t simply a Swing Out with “more rotation.”

When you understand and control rotational momentum, that energy can naturally lead into a Switch, direction change, or another improvisational choice.

Don’t memorize the sequence.
Understand what makes the next movement possible.

That’s where improvisation begins.

🇰🇷 KOREAN

⚡️ CATCH. REDIRECT. ROTATE. 🚀

Tuck Turn의 Catch와 방향 전환부터 Pop Turn → Reverse Circle, 그리고 Over-Rotate Swing Out → Switch까지.

9.
💡 Champion‘s Insight: Mastering the Flow

* 1. Crisp Transitions in Rhythm Poses ⚡️: Executing holds like Rhythm - Pose and Side Kick - Pose requires instant stopping power. Freeze your weight firmly on the accent while keeping your core locked to create dramatic visual contrast between motion and stillness.

* 2. Dynamic Knee Slaps & Scoots 📐: When executing the Scoot - Kick Ball Change - Knee Slap, keep your hips low and knees spongy. Maintain a grounded pulse while snapping your hand down cleanly for maximum rhythmic texture.

* 3. Classic Texture in Al Minns’ Triple Step 🦍: Ending with Al Minns’ Triple Step requires relaxed knees and smooth hip isolations. Let your weight shift naturally across the floor to embody that authentic vintage Savoy ballroom flavor.

Advanced Rotations 🚀
Over-Rotations & Pop Turns

🎬 [Swing Friends] Lindy Hop Advanced Week 4 Recap

In Week 4 of our Advanced Lindy Hop class, we pushed rotational momentum to the next level! We explored high-energy Over Rotate Circles, dynamic Pop Turn variations behind the Leader, and crisp, multi-directional turns in 4-Count Side Passes. Let’s dive into today’s masterlist!

📝 The Advanced Routine Masterlist

1. Swing Out
2. Over Rotate Circle - Pop Turn Behind the Leader
3. Hand-to-Hand Charleston - Swing Out
4. Over Rotate Circle - Pop Turn - Swing Out
5. Pop Turn
6. Pop Turn - Reverse Circle
7. 4-Count Side Pass - Leader Turn - Follower Turn

💡 Champion‘s Insight: Mastering Advanced Rotations

1. Controlling Over-Rotational Torque ⚡️: On Over Rotate Circles, Leaders must compress into the floor on counts 3–4 to manage the extra rotational energy. Keep your core locked so the over-rotation creates smooth elasticity rather than pulling your partner off-balance.

2. Precision Handoffs in Pop Turns 📐: Executing a Pop Turn Behind the Leader requires strict spatial awareness. Leaders, clear the pathway early, allowing Followers to maintain a continuous, smooth pivot along the rotational axis.

3. Compact Axis on 4-Count Side Passes 🦍: Quick sequential turns in the 4-Count Side Pass demand centered posture. Both partners must keep their frame compact and feet close under their hips to execute sharp, rapid rotations without losing connection.

11. Boogie Step
12. Shish-ka Boom-ba - Jump Charleston
13. Kick Turn - Boogie Forward - Boogie Back

💡 Champion's Insight: Mastering the Flow

1. Precision Syncopation in Classic Breaks ⚡️: Executing moves like Al & Leon Triple, Stomp Brush, and Full Break requires crystal-clear rhythm. Freeze your weight instantly on beat breaks to highlight syncopation before melting into the next step.

2. Grounded Isolation in Authentic Jazz Moves 📐: For Tabby the Cat, Duck Walk, and Crazy Legs, isolate your lower body while keeping your upper torso relaxed yet engaged, creating an effortless, authentic jazz texture.

3. Explosive Elevation on Jump Transitions 🦍: Driving from Pivot - Jump Scuff into Jump Charleston demands dynamic core engagement and soft knee absorption upon landing to finish the routine with maximum control and visual power.

Lindy Hop Level 1

By popular demand from dancers requesting Level 1 recaps across Lindy Hop, Balboa, and S**g, we’ve created this essential beginner archive! Today, we laid down the foundational 8-count rhythm—exploring individual weight transfers and foot switches—before jumping into iconic partner patterns: the fundamental Swing Out, Lindy Circle, and Side-by-Side connection. Let's review today's masterlist!

📝 The Level 1 Routine Masterlist

1. 8-Count Rhythm
2. Swing Out
3. Lindy Circle
4. Side-by-Side - 8-Count Rhythm

💡 Champion's Insight: Mastering Day 1 Basics

1. Smooth Weight Switches on Counts 7–8 ⚡️: On the solo 8-count rhythm drill, substituting counts 7 and 8 with a clean step-step instead of a triple step allows seamless weight changes. Practice this to build comfort with rock steps starting on both your right and left feet.

2. Pulse & Elastic Connection in Swing Out 📐: Keep a grounded down-pulse on every count during the Swing Out and Lindy Circle. Let your core absorption and elastic hand-to-frame connection lead your partner smoothly down the slot.

3. Parallel Frame Alignment in Side-by-Side 🦍: In the Side-by-Side 8-Count Rhythm, match your partner's pulse tempo and maintain parallel body angles. This shared energy ensures your footwork stays completely in sync.

Underarm Pass Dynamics 🚀
Smooth Passes & Turn Mechanics

Today in our Lindy Hop Level 2 class, we mastered underarm turn dynamics and rotational handoffs! From fundamental Underarm Passes to She Goes, He Goes and dynamic variations like the Check Step and Underarm Swing Out + Switch, we explored how maintaining a clean frame and clear lead-follow connection keeps turns effortless and connected. Let’s review today’s masterlist!

📝 The Level 2 Routine Masterlist

1. Underarm Pass
2. She Goes, He Goes
3. Underarm Pass + Check Step
4. Underarm Swing Out
5. Underarm Swing Out + Switch

💡 Champion’s Insight: Mastering Underarm Turns

1. Clear Arm Prep & Frame Alignment ⚡️: On Underarm Pass variations, lift the hand early to create a clean arch without pulling. Keep your shoulders relaxed and frame engaged to give your partner plenty of space to pass freely down the slot.

2. Dynamic Redirection on Check Steps 📐: Integrating a Check Step into an Underarm Pass requires sharp compression on count 3&4. Absorb momentum in your knees before redirecting smoothly along the slot.

3. Seamless Rotational Handoffs on Switches 🦍: Executing an Underarm Swing Out + Switch relies on crisp timing during the turn. Leaders, guide the rotational handoff cleanly at counts 5–6, allowing Followers to pivot smoothly and complete the rotation.

Learn a Jazz Step: Squat Charleston

Today in our "Learn a Jazz Step" series, we took a deep dive into the athletic and explosive Squat Charleston! Mastering this iconic solo jazz movement requires deep knee compression, sharp arm counterbalancing, and grounded rhythm control. Let’s break down today's step mechanics!

📝 The Squat Charleston Masterlist

1. Squat Down
2. Fold Left Leg - Swing Both Arms Right
3. Left Kick - Swing Both Arms Down
4. Fold Right Leg - Swing Both Arms Left
5. Right Kick - Swing Both Arms Down

💡 Champion's Insight: Mastering Squat Charleston

1. Deep Compression & Core Activation ⚡️: Sinking into the initial squat requires an engaged core and flexible knee absorption. Stay spring-loaded and grounded rather than collapsing your posture, keeping your weight centered over the balls of your feet.

2. Arm Counterbalancing for Dynamic Angular Line 📐: Swinging both arms opposite your folding leg creates dynamic momentum. This counterweight makes your kicks feel lighter while producing clean, visual diagonal contrast.

3. Grounded Downward Release on Kicks 🦍: Driving your arms downward as you execute each kick stabilizes your upper body. Keep your spine erect as you unleash the kick, using the down-pulse to set up the next fold smoothly.

Syncopated Footwork - Grounded Connection

Today in our Balboa Level 2 class, we elevated our footwork texture by introducing rich, Syncopated Rhythms! By infusing these sharp, off-beat syncopations into fundamental Balboa and Bal-Swing movements—Out & In, Swivels, and Hal’s Kick—we unlocked a deeper musicality while preserving a grounded, unbroken chest connection. Let‘s review today’s masterlist!

📝 The Level 2 Routine Masterlist

1. Out & In + Syncopated Rhythm
2. Swivels + Syncopated Rhythm
3. Hal’s Kick + Syncopated Rhythm

💡 Champion‘s Insight: Mastering Syncopated Connection

1. Micro Syncopation Mechanics ⚡️: The secret to a clean Syncopated Rhythm is keeping your feet low and your micro-pulses precise. Instead of making large movements, use subtle weight shifts through spongy knees to hit off-beat accents cleanly without breaking your stance.

2. Upper-Body Isolation in Chest Connection 📐: Adding complex syncopated footwork to Out & In and Swivels should never disrupt your close chest connection. Keep your core stable and isolate the syncopated action from the hips down so your partner feels a smooth, grounded connection.

3. Dynamic Release on Hal’s Kick 🦍: Combining Hal’s Kick with a Syncopated Rhythm requires sharp weight timing. Make sure the syncopated footwork sets up the kick cleanly, allowing your leg to release naturally without pulling your posture away from your partner.
