Today’s Toastmasters meeting was full of interesting and diverse topics!😄

​

We were happy to welcome three guests, Abraham, Chloe, and Hyewon. Our theme was “You’ve Got to Try This!”, and members shared things they would highly recommend. Akira recommended freediving, Toto talked about creatine supplements, and Cliff recommended using ChatGPT to get information about legal matters. It was fun to hear such different recommendations from everyone.

For the speeches, Victoria talked about “The Story of Rhode,” the beauty brand launched by Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber. She shared interesting insights into marketing and branding.

Eddie’s speech was about the Visual Masters Handbook. He organized and explained the information in a very clear and systematic way, making it easy to follow.

​

Jennifer’s speech was based on the movie Frankenstein. She talked about how a creature that was not loved or accepted gradually became a monster, and connected this idea to emotional intelligence and the importance of understanding and responding to our emotions and the emotions of others.

What I especially enjoyed about today’s meeting was how different all the topics were. From freediving and supplements to beauty branding, club guidelines, and emotional intelligence, every speech gave us something new to think about. It was another enjoyable and thought-provoking meeting!🌈

Today’s 578th Visual Masters meeting was held under the theme “Harvest Season.”

The highlight for me was Jooyoung’s debate session, which was really fun and engaging. 😊

​

Instead of Jennifer’s prepared speech, we had a debate on whether we would hire a good-looking barista or a highly skilled and professional barista. It was interesting to hear different perspectives and see how everyone justified their choice. The debate format was different from our usual meeting, which made the session even more enjoyable.

​

It was a great opportunity to think about what we value more in a workplace—first impressions and appearance or skills and professionalism.

​

Overall, it was a fun, lively, and thought-provoking meeting! 🌱

🌴Toastmasters Meeting — Summer Vacation

Today’s meeting was filled with stories, laughter, and thought-provoking conversations around the theme “Summer Vacation.” ☀️🏖️

Our Word of the Day was “unwind,” meaning to relax and let go of stress after being busy or under pressure. It was a perfect word for a summer-themed meeting!

One of the most interesting parts of today’s meeting was our discussion and debate inspired by Yang Gui-ja’s novel (모순 / The Contradictions).

We discussed the two very different men in the novel, Na Young-gyu and Kim Jang-woo, and asked a surprisingly difficult question:

💍 Who would you rather marry — Na Young-gyu or Kim Jang-woo?

Na Young-gyu represents stability, planning, and predictability, while Kim Jang-woo is more spontaneous, emotional, and romantic. Interestingly, the protagonist ultimately chooses Na Young-gyu, even though her feelings seem to pull her toward Kim Jang-woo.

Our debate became much more than simply choosing between two men. We talked about love vs. stability, excitement vs. security, and whether the person who makes your heart beat faster is necessarily the person who makes the best life partner.

It was fascinating to hear everyone's different perspectives. Some valued stability and reliability, while others argued that emotional connection and passion matter more in a marriage.

Perhaps the biggest lesson from 모순 is that there may be no perfect answer when it comes to love and life. Sometimes what seems like the “right” choice on paper may not be what our hearts choose — and sometimes the choices we make are full of contradictions.

🌴 vm Toastmasters — Summer Vacation

What better way to spend a Saturday morning than talking about summer vacations? ☀️🏖️

Today’s theme was “Summer Vacation,” and our Word of the Day was “unwind” — to relax and let go of stress and tension.

It was wonderful to have everyone together, both in person and virtually. 💛

Our conversations reminded us that a vacation isn’t always about traveling somewhere far away. Sometimes, it’s about spending quality time with loved ones, discovering something new, enjoying a quiet moment, or simply giving ourselves permission to slow down.

Through everyone’s stories, we got to experience different kinds of summer vacations — some exciting, some relaxing, and some unexpectedly memorable.

And perhaps that is what unwinding is really about: stepping away from our busy routines, taking a breath, and making space for ourselves.
