AAVS Seoul 2025 explores β€œCompressed City Seoul” by examining the heterogeneous and diverse urban conditions shaped through the city’s rapid transformation. Responding to the loss of Seoul’s specificity caused by homogenisation, the programme investigates how architecture can engage with processes of mutation and variation as a critical method for urban revaluation.

We are thrilled to introduce our second guest keynote lecturer: DRMA (Petter Grimm & Navid Navid). They will deliver their keynote lecture, titled , on 8 July as part of AAVS Seoul 2025.

DRMA is an award-winning architectural office with experience drawn from a rich variety of projects within architecture and place-making. We are rooted in the living history of Norwegian and international architectural practice, but first and foremost committed to the places we work with. In our hometown Drammen we are leading a range of ambitious collaborations with the city administration, developers and other stakeholders. Here, as in most of our projects, we bring together the community to turn local potentials into reality. Β«We share a passion for architecture as the art of creating meaningful places that lift up people and communities. Inspired by the past. Forming the future.Β»

We are thrilled to introduce our first guest keynote lecturer: Saul Kim. He will deliver his keynote lecture, titled , on 7 July as part of AAVS Seoul 2025.

Saul Kim is an architectural designer and educator whose work redefines conventional boundaries through his experimental research platform, Architecture Anomaly. Rooted in Object-Oriented Ontology, his design approach treats architectural forms, space, and time as autonomous entities, leading to compositions that challenge traditional functionality and provoke new spatial interpretations. Architecture Anomaly has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions, earning recognition for its visionary approach.

Through his studio, Saul participates in international conceptual design projects across the U.S., Canada, Korea, and Ukraine. In Korea, his unique model involves providing conceptual frameworks while collaborating with local architects for implementationβ€”bridging global vision with regional ex*****on.

Equally dedicated to education, Saul has lectured at institutions such as RISD, Pratt Institute, and the National University of Singapore. As an adjunct professor at Kaywon University of Art and Design, and through his Domestika courses taken by over 4,000 students, he emphasizes developing creativity through practice and critical thinking. His teaching cultivates individual design voices and fosters diverse creative expression, influenced by insights gained from global pedagogical systems.

UNIT 4: Decompressed City Seoul
Doyeon Cho + Junebum Park

In response to this year’s AAVS Seoul theme, Compressed City Seoul, Unit 4 will investigate how architectural compression manifests architecturally through the lens of rituals. The unit aims to uncover how both traditional and modern rituals in Korea have shaped, transformed, and invented compressed spatial conditions in Seoul. Based on this research, students will eventually be invited to propose alternative futures that envision decompressed environments for rituals.

You also can check other unit's brief through the link in Bio!
