Our Story

영국문화원은 문화 관계와 교육기회를 위한 영국의 국제기관이며, 영국 및 전 세계 사람들에게 우호적인 지식과 이해를 구축합니다. 기회를 창출하고 교류를 촉진하며 신뢰를 쌓아 삶을 변화시켜 함께 협력하는 국가들에게 긍정적으로 기여함으로써 이를 실현합니다.

영국문화원은 전 세계 100여 개국에 주재하면서 문화예술, 영어교육, 교육 및 사회 분야에서 활동을 펼치고 있습니다. 작년 한 해 동안 8천만 명 이상의 사람들과 직접 교류하였고 온라인, 방송, 출판물 등을 포함하여 총 7억9천 1백만 명의 사람들을 만났습니다. 1934년에 설립된 영국문화원은 영국 왕실 인가(Royal Charter)에 따라 운영되는 자선기관이자 공공기관입니다.

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

We work with over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society. Last year we reached over 80 million people directly and 791 million people overall including online, broadcasts and publications. Founded in 1934, we are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body.
