Yonsei UIC Student Ida Therese Hรธvik from The Kingdom of Norway

..My interest in the Korean language stems partially from this experience. I knew little about the country back then, but I knew that it was within close proximity to Japan. I also knew that Korea had an alphabet, which meant that the threshold for reading longer texts was lower than it was with Japanese. I started wondering more about how the languages would compare in other aspects, and thus decided I would like to move to Korea and enroll in a language course. I attended this for about a year and a half prior to commencing my undergraduate studies at Yonsei....

..I find it hard to provide any specific advice because it depends on the background of the student, which country they are applying for, and which field they are interested in.

One general thing I would recommend students to do is to spend time getting to know their professors. Ask questions, learn about their research, and explore your own research interests. It is important to have some idea of what you are interested in when you move on to graduate studies. It is also crucial that the professors you ask for references from know you and your academic potential well. In my experience, my professors have been very kind and supportive, and by working as a TA, as well as writing two senior theses, I have been able to learn about my professorsโ€™ research, and what kind of research I might want to do....
