My Design Lab My Design Lab at ID KAIST addresses the current transformation of design practice and seeks to support the traditional and new designers.

Traditionally, end-users are involved in evaluative stages of design processes: “as subject”. Recently, end-users are increasingly involved “as partner” in generative design activities with methods as “participatory design” and “co-design”. However, user involvement in industrial design is based on a “single design fits many users” paradigm. Two contemporary trends indicate a transformation in cur

rent practice and are likely to re-introduce the paradigm of “single design for single user”. Decentralized, digital manufacturing facilities such as 3D printers, make way for per-user customized products. Second, the internet is connecting buyers and sellers, designers and users in virtual space. New communities of producers, designers, co-designer and users are emerging and lead to personalization of relationship between designer and end-user. Digital media facilitate these relationships through customization tools. My Design Lab aims to address the current transformation of design practice and seeks to perform design research in order to support the traditional and the new designers. We focus on exploratory research into design tools that are aimed at end-users instead of professional designers. Our goal is to support end-users to design their own life.

Today is the start of the Spring 2017 semester! So far the year has had a pretty busy start for our lab.

Two new students, Maria and SeungRyeol, who both completed their bachelor’s in the Industrial Design program at KAIST, have joined our lab as new master's students.

The start of the new semester also marks the addition of two new master’s students to the lab, Maria and SeungRyeol. Both of them completed their bachelor’s in the Industrial Design program at KAIST and briefly worked as interns in the lab during their undergraduate studies.

myDesign 연구실에서, AR 기술을 활용한 인테리어 디자인 어플리케이션의 사용자 스터디를 진행하고자 합니다.실험의 전반적인 내용은 AR 기반 태블릿 어플리케이션의 UI 및 기능에 대한 평가를 포함하며, 공동사용 공간을 협업하여 디자인 할 경우, 정서적 거리가 가까운 커플들간의 의사결정 과정을 연구하고자 합니다. 많은 참여 부탁드립니다.

- 일시 : 2016.12.29 ~ 2017.01.05 중 편한시간 1시간

myDesignLab is looking for couples to test out an augmented reality (AR) application for interior furniture design. The core contents for the study includes the evaluation of the UI and the functionality of the tablet application. The study will also obtain insights on the collaboration process of couples.

- Date: December 29, 2016 to January 5, 2016. Approximately one hour per couple
- Subjects: Couples in graduate programs who are currently in a relationship
- Place: KAIST N25 Building 1st floor, Innovation Lounge
- Compensation: 30,000 KRW per couple
