At Chungnam National University, a project-based scholarship is a graduate-level funding opportunity (Master’s/PhD) where your financial support is tied directly to a specific research project or lab work—usually under a professor.
Here’s what it actually means in practice
⸻
🎓 What “project-based scholarship” means at CNU
At CNU, this scholarship is not just about your grades. Instead:
You are funded because you are contributing to a research project
• You join a lab or research team
• You work on a defined academic/research project
• Your funding is linked to your role in that project
This is very common in science, engineering, and research-heavy fields, but can also apply to other disciplines depending on the department.

Credit to the original author on a TikTok account the struggle is real all that glitters isn’t gold.
1.Working as a student? Almost impossible. Even part-time jobs are hard to get. Visa rules are strict, paperwork is annoying, and most places simply don't want to deal with hiring foreigners. You would say "it's normal because you're foreigner" but I'm talking about a part-time jobs. Where you see submitting tons of papers even for a simple basic part- time?
2.Dormitories don't care if you're a foreigner. Not all universities prioritize international students.
If the random dorm system doesn't choose you, you're out, no matter your grades. Which is wild, because you're literally alone in a foreign country with no safety net, while locals at least have families here. You have to find a place to stay which is again, very hard system even for locals.
3.Your Alien Registration Card takes FOREVER. 1 to 3 months of waiting.
During that time, life is extremely uncomfortable: Korea runs on apps, online services, and ID verification.
Some university services won't even help you they just tell you to "figure it out."
So you're stuck with cash... and nothing else.
Even some basic need apps like university student services and simple bank apps doesn't work without ID.
YES, studying in Korea is amazing experience BUT it's not that great as media and some influencers romanticize it. P.S I'm also non scholarship student. So I'm talking about real problems of normal students as scholarship students have totally different experience
