From the hardwood to the outdoor courts, BFS Elementary students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship at the SKAIS ES Basketball Divisional hosted by Daegu International School on April 18.
Both our Boys and Girls teams embraced the opportunity to compete, develop their skills, and grow as teammates in a dynamic, multi-court environment.
Experiences like these reflect the importance of athletics in building confidence, collaboration, and character at an early age.
We look forward to seeing our students continue their progress at the upcoming finals tournament on May 8.

Investing in Excellence! 🌟
On our recent Teacher Professional Development Day, our faculty immersed themselves in a dynamic mix of learning and collaboration. Principals worked alongside teachers on key policies, educators showcased their insights from professional learning communities, and everyone enjoyed some fun, rejuvenating recreational sessions. At BFS, we believe that supporting our teachers’ growth is the cornerstone of student success. BFS Shark Shioubin Wang recently represented BFS school at the National History Day competition hosted by Seoul International School, where over 700 students competed across junior and senior divisions.
This year’s theme, “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History,” inspired Shioubin to explore the concept of revolution through her individual performance titled “Breaking from Reality: The Spiritual Foundation of Abstract Art.”
Her hard work and creativity paid off—Shioubin placed in the Top 2 in her category, earning a coveted spot at the National History Day Final Competition in Washington, D.C. this June.
We are incredibly proud of her achievement and can’t wait to see her represent BFS on the global stage!
Way to go, Shioubin! 👏

Our Sharks showed up ready to compete in a strong first Battle of Busan victory! 🦈🏀
The MS Girls Basketball team defeated ISB 23–16, overcoming a slow start and a tough defensive battle. The team found their rhythm in the second half, sinking two clutch free-throws at the end of the game to seal the win!
We’re proud of the resilience, teamwork, and composure our girls showed when it mattered most.
Round two is coming up at ISB on April 30—come out and support our Sharks!

Sometimes, kids just need to be kids—and step beyond the classroom to experience the world around them.
That’s exactly what our middle schoolers did this past Wednesday as they took on a hike to the summit of Geumjeongsan, Busan’s highest peak. With perfect weather and cherry blossoms still in the air, it was the perfect day to unplug, recharge, and enjoy the outdoors together.
Moments like these remind us that some of the best learning happens outside the four walls—through shared experiences, fresh air, and a little adventure.

Our Grade 6 students brought literary magic to life at our Poetry & Popcorn celebration! 🍿📖
Mrs. Persaud’s reading and writing class proudly showcased original poetry, inviting parents to experience the creativity, voice, and confidence of our young authors. From beautifully crafted poetry books on display to brave students taking the stage to share their work aloud, the evening was filled with joy, imagination, and community connection.
Events like this highlight one of our core SHARK values—developing active communicators who continue learning both inside and outside the classroom.
We are so proud of our poets for sharing their voices and inspiring us all!

📚✨ Inspiring Learners with We Love Reading Month ✨📚
March was filled with energy, creativity, and a shared love of books during our annual We Love Reading Month at BFS!
From logging thousands of reading minutes in our Beanstack Challenge (shoutout to Grade 3 and Grade 6 👏), to creative competitions like Emoji Story Titles, Bookmark Design, and our always-popular Book Character Potatoes, our students brought literacy to life across every grade level.
A special highlight was welcoming best-selling author and illustrator Tad Hills, who inspired our youngest learners with his storytelling and live illustration of Duck & Goose.
Throughout the month, our community came together through mystery readers, “shelfies,” and shared book recommendations—creating a vibrant culture of reading across campus.
As our librarian Stephanie Platt shared, “March has become my favorite month in the library, as students from Early Childhood through High School unite to celebrate books.”
At BFS, we believe in the power of reading to spark imagination, creativity, and lifelong learning. 💡📖

Middle School Computer Science students at BFS are diving into the future of technology—exploring the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
As their culminating project, students designed and built their own chatbots using supervised machine learning in Scratch. Each chatbot was trained to:
Predict conversation topics
Engage in meaningful dialogue
Ask follow-up questions
Students then showcased their work to the community—testing their programs, gathering feedback, and refining their designs through an iterative development process.
More than just coding, this project highlights how BFS students are developing critical skills in problem-solving, communication, and real-world technology applications.
At BFS, learning goes beyond theory—students create, test, and improve just like real developers.
