In the performing arts, particularly dance, we use our bodies as the main instrument for producing art before live audiences. The course, CAPE Performing Arts, has been offered at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, St.
Kitts since September 2014. Unit 1, Business for the Creative Arts, helps artists to harness the entrepreneurial drive, creativity and business know-how necessary for industry growth. Unit 2, the practical course, is currently offered in DANCE & MUSIC. Aspiring artists become more knowledgeable about Art History & Culture and enhance performance, production and technical skills. Graduates of this course go on to become leaders in the Creative Industry.

PROJECT: THIS IS ME
Last Friday another group of Performing Arts (Unit 1 - Business for the Creative Arts) students hosted their Paper 3 creative event entitled: PROJECT: THIS IS ME - a self-empowerment photo-shoot aimed at dismantling the cycle of lack of self-love by removing negative labels and replacing them with positive ones.
Unfortunately, in today’s society, teenage girls continue to struggle with insecurity and low self-esteem. The researchers themselves have had personal experiences where their own friends or family would say things that would reduce their feelings of self-worth. This made them even more driven to make a difference in the lives of girls who may be going through a similar ordeal.
“Project: This Is Me” utilized an unconventional approach to instilling self confidence in teenage girls. Through the use of drama, dance, a make-over session and photo shoot, the event focused on enhancing outer beauty while placing emphasis on inner beauty as well. Any negative labels that the girls may have associated with themselves in the past were replaced with positive ones, thereby giving them the opportunity to openly define themselves. There is beauty in our differences and "Project: This is Me" aimed to recognize this.
Last Wednesday our Unit 2 (Dance option) class participated in a exciting and challenging Open Class at the Creative Sole Dance Company that included African-based Warm up and Progressions along with a Contemporary routine.
Our students (in black) are pictured with the directors of the Creative Sole Dance Company Shara-Lee Mourillon, Tomeeka 'Kinjah' Richards and Shanda Labega.
A group of our Unit 1 students who called themselves 'For the Change Inc', hosted their Paper 3 creative event on Monday entitled MY MCKNIGHT,
See more details in post below.
MY MC KNIGHT… a creative event put on by students of CFBC’s Performing Arts, Unit 1: Business for the Creative Arts course who called themselves 'For The Change Inc'.
Under the theme ‘Inspiring Community Pride in the Youths of Tomorrow’, The Change Inc, will use edutainment (education through entertainment) to inspire Grade 6 students of the Irish Town Primary School to make a difference for the better in the community by highlighting the positive change-makers who were born/ raised in McKnight.
Based on research done, For The Change Inc. has recognized that McKnight has a bad reputation as a crime- ridden town. Not only has the rise in criminal activity placed a stigma on the community but with no or few positive role models, the young people living within the McKnight area seemed to have lost their sense of community pride.
MY MC KNIGHT by The Change Inc aims is to leave a lasting impact on the students and teachers of the Irish Town Primary School that will ultimately lead to a real change within and about this community.
