If the energy at our Welcome Back to School Assembly is anything to go by, Washington Archibald High School is in for one AMAZING school year! 🔥💙

From the moment the assembly began, there was a buzz of excitement in the air as students and staff came together to officially launch the new academic year.

The Student Government Association set the tone for the morning with an uplifting devotion.

Our Principal followed with a warm welcome to the Washington Archibald family, extending a special greeting to our First Formers, who are taking their first steps into an exciting new chapter. We also had the pleasure of welcoming our new teachers and introducing our Junior and Senior Management teams to the student body.

Then came a message that we hope will stay with our students throughout the year.

Our featured speaker, Ms. Julia Byron Isaac, challenged our students to look within themselves and recognize that they already possess what it takes to succeed. Her message was one of confidence, courage and self-belief, reminding every student that when challenges come, they have the power to rise to the occasion. Her message came with a simple but powerful mantra, which she encouraged the students to repeat: “I GOT THIS!”

Thereafter, school grounds came alive with performances from some of our talented local artistes, including reggae sensation Virgil Hodge, and 50 who hyped the students up with his hit song “Lover’s Lane”. The Fifth Form Theatre Arts students brought their own brand of excitement with an exhilarating dance presentation, while the National Intervention Drum Corps had the crowd feeling the rhythm with their energetic drum performance. Our school Chapel Pastor Jeremy touched our hearts with a powerful prayer to help us through this academic year.

Just when we thought the morning couldn’t get any better two magnificent murals, proudly hand-painted by one of our very own students, Idis Giz, were unveiled to the excitement and admiration of the school community.

School year, we’re reminded that every new year brings new possibilities, new goals, new friendships and new opportunities to shine.

What a morning! What a welcome!

This school year, we’re reminded that every new year brings new possibilities, new goals, new and new opportunities. Washie Wild Cats, “We Got This!”

The 2026 examination period has seen a number of extraordinary performances by the students of Washington Archibald High School.

This post serves to pay homage to one of our most diligent stars. Miss Mia Romney, our visually impaired student, who rose above insurmountable challenges to excel in 8 out of 9 subjects, earning 5 Grade 1s and 3 Grade 2s.

Mia has always been a diligent student who persevered through every obstacle with quiet intellect, patient understanding, and advice that often seemed far beyond her young age.

Upon her admission to WAHS, Mia was given the opportunity to familiarize herself with the school before classes began. She embraced the opportunity immediately and could often be seen navigating the corridors independently.

The Ministry of Education played a vital role in providing Mia with an aide who supported her throughout her high school journey. Mia was also provided with the necessary Braille instruments to foster and further her education.

All stakeholders worked together to help shine the diamond in the rough that was Mia. Her CSEC achievements are the result of the combined efforts of the school, her teachers, the Ministry of Education, her fellow students, her mother, and most importantly, Mia herself.

Mia continues to be a beacon of hope, inspiration and tenacity. The ‘Washie Wildcats’ are overwhelmingly proud of Mia and continue to wish her every success as she navigates all aspects of her life.

THREE CHEERS FOR MIA! 🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

HARD WORK AND DEDICATION ARE NOT AN OPTION; THEY ARE A WAY OF LIFE AT WASHIE!
