🌈✨ Happy Pride Month from KIT! ✨🌈

As part of KIT’s commitment to supporting Pride Month 2026, our Student Support Services team, in collaboration with the Boutokan Inaomataia ao Mauria Binabinaine Association (BIMBA), gathered under the Maneaba roof to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the true meaning of Pride Month.

The awareness session featured special guests from BIMBA, who captivated the audience through performances and heartfelt stories, sharing their experiences and highlighting how Pride is celebrated around the world. Together, we officially opened Pride Month on campus with a message of understanding, acceptance, and the importance of embracing who we are while promoting respect, equality, and inclusion for everyone.

🌟 We were also honoured to welcome one of KIT’s distinguished alumni and well-known public figure, Tinanteree Kirimajaure, who delivered inspiring reflections on pride, self-acceptance, and the importance of supporting one another and building strong communities.

At KIT, we believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and that our differences make our communities stronger.

💜 Happy Pride Month!

Let us continue to foster kindness, understanding, and a campus where everyone feels valued, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

🌸 Raising Voices for Menstrual Health Awareness at KIT 🌸

In recognition of Menstrual Hygiene Day and as part of a week of awareness activities, the Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT) proudly hosted a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Competition to promote understanding, encourage open conversations, and help break the stigma surrounding menstruation.

The competition provided students with a platform to share powerful messages, personal experiences, challenges, and successes related to menstrual health and hygiene. Through poetry, singing, and speech, participants used creativity and storytelling to educate, inspire, and advocate for greater awareness and support.

Congratulations to our winners:
🏆 Poetry – School of Applied Technology
🏆 Singing – School of Business
🏆 Speech – School of Applied Technology

One of the most inspiring aspects of the event was the active participation of male students, who highlighted the importance of empathy, respect, and shared responsibility in promoting menstrual health awareness.

Automotive student Raoranti Mwatiou Rui reminded us that: "As gentlemen, brothers, friends, and classmates, we also have a role in showing respect, support, and understanding so that every girl and woman feels valued."

Similarly, Community Services student Stephen Roriki delivered a heartfelt reflection on his experience studying alongside female classmates: "When I first joined Community Services, I got the shock of my life. I walked into class and realized that 98% of my classmates are female. But I've learned to listen to their stories, to see them as they truly are, and to admire their spirit. Being a woman is far more complex than most people understand. A woman's real signature is strength - not just physical strength, but the deep power to survive, adapt, protect, rebuild, and keep going with kindness, love, resilience, and dignity. Because of them, I still come to school motivated and proud!"

The event was both educational and entertaining, creating a safe and supportive space for learning, advocacy, and meaningful dialogue. Activities such as these demonstrate KIT’s ongoing commitment to promoting health awareness, gender inclusivity, student empowerment, and a culture where everyone feels respected and supported.

Together, we can continue to break the silence, challenge stigma, and ensure that menstrual health is recognized as an important part of health, dignity, and wellbeing for all. 💜

The Menstrual Hygiene Awareness speeches delivered by representatives from each participating school will be shared in the coming days, providing further insight into their perspectives, experiences, and key messages surrounding menstrual health and hygiene.

Certificate II Construction Students Begin Practical Training in Site Setting Out

Year 1 students enrolled in the Certificate II in Construction program have commenced their practical training in the unit Site Setting Out, under the guidance of their Construction Lecturer. Following a the theoretical learning, students are now applying their knowledge through hands-on skills training.

This practical component provides students with valuable experience in site measurement, layout, and preparation - essential skills for the construction industry.

The Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT) remains committed to delivering quality vocational training and capacity building, ensuring students are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to transition successfully into the workforce and meet industry demands.

The Student Support Services (SSS) Team at KIT successfully hosted a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Session for students, promoting wellbeing, health awareness, and a more supportive campus environment.

The session created an open and respectful space for students to learn, engage, and discuss menstrual health and hygiene. Through videos, discussions, and student participation, important conversations were encouraged around breaking stigma and building understanding.

A meaningful discussion was sparked when a male student asked why men should attend menstrual health sessions. Students highlighted the important role men play in supporting women, promoting respect, and helping break the silence around menstruation.

Students also discussed the importance of empathy, care, and understanding towards women during menstruation, with female students sharing how simple acts of support can make a real difference.

The session also introduced upcoming Menstrual Hygiene Day activities next week, including poetry, song, and speech competitions involving schools. On 3rd June, KIT will host a Male Pageant under the theme:

Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT) is proud to share an exciting milestone for our current students undertaking Certificate III in Construction & Certificate III in Plumbing.

After spending more than three months strengthening their theoretical knowledge and practical understanding in the classroom, our students in Kiritimati Island now have the valuable opportunity to apply their learning in a real construction environment.

Working alongside experienced construction workers, the students are actively contributing to the construction of a Catholic Maneaba in Kiritimati Island. The project is expected to continue through to September, with KIT students participating over the coming weeks in key areas such as drainage, roofing installation, and plumbing works.

This marks the first time this year that KIT has been involved in a large-scale construction initiative of this kind, involving the construction of one Maneaba and 20 toilets.

The construction project is an initiative of the Kiritimati Catholic Parish, involving the Ministry of Line and Phoenix Islands Development, who have allowed their permanent construction and plumbing staff to lead and support the work on site. The project is also being voluntarily supported by 24 of our KIT students, who have generously lent a hand and contributed their skills and effort towards this important initiative.

KIT remains committed to equipping students with hands-on industry experience that strengthens their skills, confidence, and readiness for the workforce. We are proud of our students for taking this important step from theory into practice and look forward to seeing their continued growth throughout the project.

Kam rabwa to all partners and individuals supporting this meaningful initiative.

As part of the concluding activities of the recent Safety and Security Capacity Building Program, staff members of the Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT) participated in a Safety and Security Awareness Session delivered by Mr. Ben Delaimatuku during the lunch break.

The session provided valuable insights into workplace safety, personal security awareness, emergency response procedures, and the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment across the campus.

Staff actively engaged in discussions and practical examples shared throughout the session, helping to strengthen understanding of the important role each individual plays in contributing to a safer workplace for both colleagues and students.
