Our kindergarteners had an absolute blast exploring different careers through pretend play. From carefully picking out groceries at the "supermarket," to diagnosing patients as little doctors, and bravely saving the day as firefighters—their imaginations were in full swing!

While it looks like pure fun, there is deep learning happening in every interaction. At Kent Ridge International School, our early years program is guided by Singapore’s Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) framework, which champions Purposeful Play.

When children role-play these real-world scenarios, they aren't just acting. They are actively building:

· Social and Emotional Skills: by learning to share, take turns, and empathize with others.
· Language and Communication: by negotiating roles and expanding their vocabulary in context.
· Cognitive Development by problem-solving and understanding how the world around them works.

Students from Kent Ridge International School were selected to participate in the Empowered Youth Leadership Conference (EYLC). The event was co-organized by companies from Singapore—including Add Courage, CELSCA Education, Brands for Good Limited, Himawari Hotel Apartments, and the School of Innovative Leadership—with distinguished guests joining from Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
EYLC provides a valuable platform for young people in Cambodia to learn from good leadership role models, discover their strengths and purpose, and understand how they can make positive contributions to their communities. To date, EYLC has been held across six countries—Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand—bringing together approximately 2,000 participants from across Southeast Asia.
