Khmer culture and Thai culture are both very old and important in Southeast Asia. But historically, Khmer civilization is older as a major organized culture and empire. Here is a simple explanation:
ποΈ Khmer Culture
Khmer civilization dates back more than 1,500β2,000 years.
Early kingdoms: Funan (around 1st century CE) and Chenla (6thβ8th century).
The Angkor Empire (802β1431) was one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia.
Famous achievements:
Angkor Wat
Advanced irrigation systems
Khmer architecture, art, and writing.
π Thai Culture
Thai people migrated from southern China into mainland Southeast Asia around the 10thβ13th centuries.
The first major Thai kingdom was Sukhothai (1238β1438).
Later came Ayutthaya (1351β1767) and then modern Thailand.
Thai culture developed later but was influenced by Khmer, Mon, and Indian civilizations.
π Simple Timeline
Khmer civilizations: ~1st century CE or earlier
Angkor Empire: 9thβ15th century
Thai kingdoms begin: 13th century
β
Conclusion:
Historically, Khmer culture is older than Thai culture as a major civilization in Southeast Asia.

π¨ Imagine being blocked from returning to your own home by military barbed wire and shipping containers. For nearly 80,000 displaced civilians, this is their current reality.
Tensions are boiling over in Southeast Asia today as Cambodia formally accuses the Thai military of a deep territorial incursion. According to Cambodian officials, Thai troops have heavily barricaded roads, effectively trapping tens of thousands of displaced families and preventing them from going back.
The situation has gotten so severe that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet is taking the crisis to the global stageβraising the issue directly with senior US officials and preparing for emergency talks in Geneva and Brussels.
Despite the military friction, Cambodia is pushing for a peaceful, diplomatic resolution backed by international law and ASEAN observers, calling for an immediate resumption of the Joint Border Commission.
Will international pressure be enough to de-escalate this massive border crisis? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. π

Anwa Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, has demanded that Thailand immediately remove the container boats from the rocks.
He emphasized that keeping the boats there is a clear violation of international law between nations and a grave error on Thailand's part.
This situation must be rectified without delay!π£π£π£

π¨ BREAKING: New Investigation Confirms "Thailand Broke International Law" π°π
For months, the world treated the border conflict as "mutual blame." Now, a major investigation by The New York Editorial reveals the hard truth: While Cambodia may have lit the match, Thailand burned down the neighborhood.
The report, backed by international data, exposes how a border dispute was turned into an illegal war to win an election in Bangkok.
Key findings that every Cambodian needs to know:
Disproportionate Force: When a landmine injured one soldier, Thailand responded with F-16 fighter jets and airstrikes. The report calls this "wildly disproportionate."
Illegal Weapons: The investigation confirms Thailand used cluster munitionsβweapons banned by most of the worldβwhich tragically took the life of 10-year-old Sern Sovann in Preah Vihear.
Psychological Warfare: The report documents how Thai forces blasted "wailing ghost sounds" and funeral music at 3:00 AM into our villages to terrorize sleeping children.
Political Games: The evidence suggests the Thai government used our border and our lives as a campaign strategy to win their election.
The Hard Truth:
The report is fairβit does not let Cambodia off the hook. It highlights how the scam compounds and political decisions in Phnom Penh created the conditions for this crisis.
But the conclusion is clear: Creating a crisis is bad. Waging an illegal war against civilians is worse.
π As of today, nearly 98,000 of our people are still displaced.
