We recently conducted a series of workshops for teachers, school leaders, and the District Office of Education to address the impact of climate change in schools through plastic waste management.

The sessions focused on equipping participants with practical solutions needed to reduce plastic waste, while introducing the concept of green schools with sustainable practices that can be implemented by both students and teachers. It is encouraging to see that some schools had already initiated these efforts prior to the workshops, while others are now actively developing plans following the sessions. By fostering collaboration and empowering educators, we aim to create a ripple effect of awareness and action, encouraging schools and communities to commit to combating climate change.

Leadership in Learning Talk

Last week, we hosted a Leadership in Learning Talk session, where we invited principals from the highest achieving schools in the district as guest speakers to share insights on effective school leadership. The discussion focused on how to become a better leader, establish clear roles, and manage schools efficiently to ensure all students reach their full potential.

The sharing session took place at the Teacher Development Center (TDC) and was attended by school leaders from two districts: Kralanh and Srei Snam. Teachers actively participated by asking questions and engaging in meaningful discussions throughout the session.

Last week, the Teaching Development Officers and the Educational Technology Team introduced the digital Maths Mentoring Process to 30 Master Mentors and Mentors in Kralanh and Srei Snam Districts. The team presented digital forms and dashboards designed to facilitate seamless access and sharing of mentoring improvement plans with Mentees through tablets. While the transition from paper-based methods to digital systems presented initial challenges, a strong willingness and enthusiasm to adapt to these new tools and resources was demonstrated throughout.

Pov, an Irish Aid Fellow who completed his Masters at Mary Immaculate College, Ireland and Sreyphet travelled from Cambodia to attend this event which put a spotlight on the Professional Identity of Khmer Teachers (PIKT) Project. This Project is funded by Irish Aid through Taighde Éireann. Pov and Sreyphet were joined by Taing Im, another Irish Aid Fellow, currently studying at Maynooth University and a number of colleagues from SBB Ireland and វិទ្យាស្ថានគរុកោសល្យរាជធានីភ្នំពេញ - Phnom Penh Teacher Education College.

Support from the Irish Government is key to making events like this and opportunities for further education possible. SeeBeyondBorders values the longstanding support of Irish Aid and Irish Embassy in Vietnam in strengthening development connections between these two countries.
