This week, our Grade 5 & 6 students explored the world of energy through fun, hands-on experiments! 🔬⚡
From ping pong ball shooters to static electricity with salt and pepper, they investigated elastic, gravitational, chemical, and electrical energy. Along the way, students saw how energy transforms from one form to another and that it’s always conserved, even when it changes into heat or sound🌡️🔉
Hands-on activities like these make learning more meaningful, helping students truly understand concepts by seeing them in action!🧠 Great job everyone!👏

At SGIS, the Ontario Curriculum inspires us to take learning outside because some of the most meaningful lessons happen in the real world✨
From exploring nature to solving real-life problems, students are encouraged to connect what they learn in the classroom with the world around them. By learning in and from nature, students develop critical thinking skills, environmental awareness, and a lifelong appreciation for the world they live in. 🌎
Education isn’t just about textbooks - it’s about experiences, discovery, and making learning come alive🙌

Our Preschool students have been busy exploring the wonderful world of plants as medicine! 🌱✨
Yesterday, they focused on aloe vera - a plant known for its soothing benefits for the skin. The children had a hands-on experience where they carefully helped chop the aloe vera and discovered the cool, gel-like texture inside! They gently applied it to their skin and learned how nature can help us take care of our bodies.💆🏻♀️
It was an incredibly fun day, full of exploration, sensory skill development and appreciation for natural remedies. 🌿💚

Our Grade 1 and 2 students explored the art of “how to” through a hands-on and delicious experience - making a glutinous rice flour dessert! 🍡✨
By breaking down each step in the cooking process, they discovered how informative writing comes to life in the real world🌍 Every ingredient told part of a story, helping them understand sequencing, clarity, and purpose in writing.
More importantly, this activity bridged the gap between literacy and essential life skills - turning learning into something meaningful, memorable, and fun ❤️

At SGIS, we place a strong emphasis on developing fine motor skills in fun, engaging, and meaningful ways✨ These activities help strengthen the small muscles in children’s hands and bodies, supporting essential skills like writing, coordination, focus, and independence✍💡
But the best part? The children don’t even realise how much they’re learning, because they’re having so much fun!🤩
These playful, hands-on experiences encourage problem-solving, resilience, and joy in learning. By combining movement with academic skills, we create an environment where every child can thrive - physically, socially, and academically!❤️

Our Grade 1 and 2 students had an exciting and creative art session with Ms. Ruth! 🖌️👩🎨
Our students explored body tracing and self-expression through art. Working together, they carefully traced their classmates and brought their creations to life with vibrant colors, patterns, and imaginative details. 🌈
From teamwork and collaboration to creativity and confidence, it was wonderful to see our young artists fully engaged and having so much fun. Each masterpiece was truly unique and full of personality! 💛
Well done everyone and a big thank you to Ms. Ruth! 👏🎉

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been diving into the world of forces and structures - getting hands-on with compression and tension to see how bridges really hold it all together! 𖣑
From there, things got even more interesting as they explored simple machines, designing and testing their own pulley systems to discover how lifting heavy loads can be made a whole lot easier🏗️
One of the highlights was watching how much fun they had experimenting, problem-solving, and thinking like engineers while bringing these concepts to life through hands-on activities!🙌
