Turns out learning Khmer starts with... dancing. Before the lesson even began, our trainees had to shake off the nerves with some traditional Cambodian dance moves — hook first, grammar second. Two months ago we crossed paths with Peter Thipommajan at Mittaphap International in Siem Reap. He introduced us to the work his team has been doing for years — and the mission to provide free education to children in Cambodia and Laos. We visited their centre, brought two of their staff to our training programme, and Willie taught one of their evening classes.

Today, Peter begins walking 1,172 km from Siem Reap to Vang Vieng, Laos. Sixty days on foot to raise funds for EEFA — the Equal Education Fund for All.

Presenting to your own cohort is its own kind of nerve-wracking. This is what it looks like when a trainee runs a full classroom-management activity — Freeze, Groove, Slow-Mo, Robot Time — while the rest of the group reacts in real time. If you've been putting off asking about the September/October intake because you think it's too late — it probably isn't yet. Classroom Apprenticeship (starts 28 September): enrolment open until 14 September. Fast Track (starts 5 October): enrolment open until 21 September. Not a countdown, just the actual date. A TEFL certificate proves you know the theory — it doesn't put you in front of a class. If you're certified but haven't really taught, Fast Track closes that gap in three weeks, in-person, with real teaching reps and the same placement support every Destination TEFL programme includes. Worth knowing: not every certificate is currently accepted. Fast Track needs a minimum 120-hour TEFL or TESOL from an accepted provider, confirmed individually rather than from a fixed list.
