The words "used to" and "be used to" are often confused, but they have different meanings and uses in English grammar.
Used to is a verb that is used to talk about habits, states, or facts that were true in the past but are not true now. It is always followed by the infinitive of the main verb. For example:
I used to live in New York.
She used to be a doctor.
We used to go swimming every weekend.
Be used to is an adjective that means "to be familiar with" or "to be accustomed to." It is followed by a noun or a gerund. For example:
I am used to the noise of the city.
He is not used to driving on the left side of the road.
We are getting used to our new house.
Get used to is a phrase that means "to become familiar with" or "to become accustomed to." It is followed by a noun or a gerund. For example:
It took me a while to get used to my new job.
They are getting used to living in a foreign country.
I'm sure you'll get used to the new traffic patterns soon.
