What we see vs how AI makes a guess
This week we learned how AI looks at images.
I asked them, "When you look at this picture, what do you see?"
“A boy walking a cow" was the response more or less.
It was automatic because it makes sense.
But AI does not see it that way.
So we broke it down step by step.
First, what AI thinks it sees.
It starts with pixels. Tiny squares of color, and a bunch of numbers.
Then, what AI breaks it into.
Edges, lines, shapes, and parts of the image.
Finally, how AI makes a guess.
It compares those patterns to what it has seen before.
And only then does it make a prediction.
AI does not understand images. It finds patterns and makes a guess.
That’s the part students need to understand.
Pedagogy before technology.
