[Call for Trainees | Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat 2026]

The Asian Vision Institute is pleased to open the application for Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat traineeship!

Selected trainees will take part in a week-long in-person programme aboard a cruise ship in Cambodia, featuring discussions, cultural exchange, community engagement, and networking with participants from the six Mekong-Lancang countries.

On 30 March 2026, the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) welcomed a working visit led by His Excellency Karat Sarybay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) for an exchange dialogue and discussion with a focus on jointly strengthening an able role of peace, security and stability in the region and beyond. Both sides discussed the current agenda of CICA and AVI’s insight, and its ongoing transformation and preparations for the 7th CICA Summit to be held later this year.

AVI has had the honor of joining the CICA Think Tank network and as as bridge connecting policymakers, lawmakers, think tankers, academics, and business community representing active civil society in forging closer partnership with all relevant stakeholders from around the world.

AVI remains steadfast in promoting peace and dialogue exchange among think tanks from ranges of perspectives. AVI has also emphasized its readiness to support mutual cooperation in-depth, and to contribute for future engagements as one of the CICA’s members.

On the morning of 23 March 2026, the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) welcomed the visit of H.E. Steven Pang Chee Wee, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Singapore to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the AVI office. The courtesy meeting served as a valuable opportunity on the basis of continued cooperation to exchange views on Cambodia–Singapore relations and ways to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, beyond state-to-state relations to people-to-people ties.

During the meeting, both sides discussed Cambodia’s development and progress on trade and investment, agriculture, food security, and connectivity, as well as current and emerging issues affecting the country and the region. The two sides also exchanged perspectives on Cambodia’s relations with other countries, particularly within ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region, while underscoring the importance of continued dialogue, mutual understanding, and practical cooperation in addressing shared challenges and advancing common interests.

Both sides also expressed their deep interest in further engaging and exploring potential cooperation opportunities among and with different key stakeholders via Track 1.5 and Track 2 to promoting practical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and shared efforts to address regional and global challenges.

The Asian Vision Institute (AVI) and the India Foundation (IF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 19 March 2026, marking a meaningful step forward in strengthening Cambodia–India relations through policy dialogue, academic exchange, joint research, and people-to-people cooperation. The MoU also paves the way for the first Angkor Dialogue to be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, as a platform for expanding cooperation between Cambodia and India across the Mekong subregion, ASEAN, and the wider Asia Pacific.

Through this partnership, AVI reaffirms its commitment to fostering regional dialogue, promoting mutual understanding, and supporting practical cooperation between Cambodia and India, while contributing to broader engagement in the Mekong region, ASEAN, and the Asia Pacific.

On 11 March 2026, the Asian Vision Institute welcomed Professor Yang Jiemian, Chairman of the Academic Advisory Council of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), for a policy dialogue on China’s academic perspectives on Cambodia–China and Cambodia–US relations. The meeting brought together researchers and policy experts to exchange views on the evolving triangular relationship among China, Cambodia, and the United States, as well as the broader regional and global context shaping Cambodia’s strategic choices.

AVI remains committed to promoting think tank dialogue and intellectual exchange among Cambodian and Chinese scholars, as well as with researchers and policy communities across the Mekong-Lancang region, ASEAN, and the wider Asia Pacific. Through these exchanges, AVI aims to support deeper mutual understanding, encourage the sharing of ideas, and contribute to constructive regional dialogue on issues of common interest.

The Outcomes of the GMS Knowledge Exchange Visit in Cambodia

On 19 February 2026, the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) welcomed a Japanese delegation for an in-depth policy dialogue aimed at strengthening Cambodia–Japan academic and policy engagement. The delegation consisted of senior researchers from the National Institute of Defense Studies (NIDS), academic professors from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and Kyushu University, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Phnom Penh. At the outset, both sides introduced their respective institutions and areas of expertise, reaffirming the long-standing and trusted relationship between Cambodia and Japan and the importance of sustained scholarly and policy exchange.

The discussion covered a range of policy issues, including Cambodia’s security policy, its security relations with major powers, key security challenges facing the country, Cambodia’s ASEAN policy, and broader external relations, including economic engagement with major partners. The exchange also formed part of the Japanese delegation’s research visit, which aimed to convey Japanese perspectives on Japan’s approach to great-power competition and Tokyo’s evolving security policy in an increasingly complex regional and global environment. The dialogue highlighted shared interest in continued academic exchange, joint research, and policy dialogue as next steps to further deepen Cambodia–Japan cooperation.
