Journal of Greater Mekong Studies – Call for Papers
Ninth Edition: Special Issue on Cambodia–Thailand Relations and Future Regional Integration

The Journal of Greater Mekong Studies (JGMS), published by the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) invites submissions for its ninth edition, a special issue examining Cambodia–Thailand relations and their implications for bilateral engagement, trust building, and future regional integration in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The journal publishes peer-reviewed scholarship that advances empirical, theoretical, and policy-relevant understanding of regional dynamics in the Mekong region.

Scope and Themes

This special issue welcomes original research and analytical contributions that examine Cambodia–Thailand relations from historical, political, economic, legal, and strategic perspectives. Approximately half of the accepted articles will focus directly on bilateral dynamics, including analyses of sources of tension and cooperation, diplomatic engagement, confidence- and trust-building measures, de-escalatory or post-tension pathways, and prospects for sustained collaboration. Submissions that explore future directions in the bilateral relationship and assess implications for GMS integration are particularly encouraged.

The issue also welcomes manuscripts that situate Cambodia–Thailand relations within broader regional and comparative contexts. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, regional integration and connectivity; political economy and governance; security and conflict management; cross-border cooperation; environmental and resource governance; migration and mobility; and the evolving institutional architecture of the Greater Mekong Subregion.

The journal accepts original research articles, review and analytical essays, policy analyses, and research notes that offer empirically grounded, theoretically informed, or policy-relevant insights. Authors of accepted and published manuscripts will receive an honorarium of USD 300.

Submission and Formatting Guidelines

Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Submissions should be written in clear academic English and prepared in accordance with the APA Publication Manual (7th edition), including formatting for in-text citations, references, headings, tables, and figures.

All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Authors must ensure that all identifying information is removed from the manuscript and provided only on a separate title page. Each submission should include an abstract of no more than 200 words and four to six keywords.

The deadline for manuscript submission is 31 May 2026. Authors will be notified of review outcomes following completion of the peer-review process. The special issue is scheduled for publication later in 2026.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to: [email protected]

Memorial Message on the Passing of Ms. Gwen Robinson

By H.E. Mr. Huy Kanthoul Vora, Executive Director of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace.
It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Ms. Gwen Robinson, a distinguished journalist, researcher, and an unwavering advocate for independent think tanks in Southeast Asia.
Ms. Gwen Robinson’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP), where she voluntarily served as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow. Through her remarkable ability to foster meaningful connections among scholars and think tanks in the region, she played a crucial role in strengthening intellectual discourse and collaboration. Her passion for promoting independent research in Cambodia was rooted not only in professional dedication but in genuine friendship and commitment to the country’s development.
Gwen brought boundless energy and invaluable expertise to CICP, contributing to numerous key initiatives. She was instrumental in organizing major conferences, assuming speaker roles at CICP events, and serving as a member of the editorial team for the Journal of Greater Mekong Studies, our flagship publication. Her insights, wealth of knowledge, and independent spirit enriched Cambodian researchers and helped elevate critical discussions on regional affairs.
Recognized as one of the finest opinion writers, Gwen possessed a deep understanding of the region, including Cambodia. Her keen analytical mind and journalistic integrity made her an influential voice on ASEAN affairs, regional stability, and pressing geopolitical issues.
On a personal note, Gwen was more than a colleague—she was a dear friend who shared my deep concerns for ASEAN’s relevance, regional security, and Cambodia’s development. Her passing is an irreplaceable loss, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in our pursuit of knowledge and cooperation.
May she rest in peace.
