JICA Dry Farming Project

On 19 September 2023, the project organized a field visit to Hun Sen High Mouy Mithona High School and invited parents of students to visit the vegetable garden. The project has awarded several prizes to students who have worked hard to grow crops.

The pilot project on "Model Formulation of Dry Period Farming by Utilizing Irrigation Ponds and Implementation of Demonstration Program in the Rural Area by Royal University of Agriculture in Cambodia" conducted a closing seminar on September 18, 2023, for the last two years of the project implementation with three targeted high schools in Kampong Chhang, Kandal and Takeo province, Cambodia. The participants were project partners from សាកលវិទ្យាល័យភូមិន្ទកសិកម្ម RUA - Royal University of Agriculture, and 近畿大学/Kindai University, JICA Cambodia Office - JICA カンボジア事務所, វិទ្យាល័យ ហ៊ុន សែន ក្រាំងស្រម៉, វិទ្យាល័យហ៊ុនសែន១មិថុនា, វិទ្យាល័យជ័យវរ្ម័នទី៧-Jayavarman VII High School, CE SAIN Cambodia and relevant stakeholders. The opening remarks were given by H.E. NGO Bunthan, rector of the Royal University of Agriculture, followed by the welcome remark of Ms. Toyama Haruko, senior program officer of the JICA Cambodia Office. The meeting discussion was running smoothly, while several valuable feedback, comments, and suggestions were obtained from the participants to improve the following up-scale proposal for the next project.

The JICA Dry Farming Project in Cambodia prepared a Field Visit on 14 August 2023 to Hun Sen Krang Srormor High School in Kampong Chhnang Province. The participants included high school principal, high school students, JICA staff, project members from Kindai University and students, Japan, and project members from Royal University of Agriculture (RUA). The field trip took place at a garden site next to a pond. The field trip was successful and the participants were able to exchange their experiences on growing vegetables and using the irrigation systems in their garden site.

Checking Soil texture and pH in the vegetable garden in Hun Sen Mouy Mithona High School, Takao Province

The vegetables and plants weren't good at growing in the high school garden area because of soil qualities, this project conducted a short training for sharing soil testing types and pH checking technic with high school students, by sampling in 3 places at Hun Sen Mouy Mithona. Hence, the JICA team led the 2 years students from FBAE of RUA who had provided training on soil texture and pH experiments. This training went smoothly and high school students were also involved in soil sampling and pH checking experiments.
