Australia Awards Cambodia: Eight Years of Transforming Lives

Since 2018, Australia Awards Scholarships have opened doors for talented Cambodians to grow, learn, and lead. 🌟

Over the past 8 years, the program has supported 438 awards in 9 intake rounds. This includes 421 Master’s awards and 17 PhD awards. It has helped scholars gain good qualifications, stronger technical skills, and useful professional networks.

Over the 8-year phase, 365 scholars have been mobilised, and 331 have already returned to Cambodia to put their learning into practice and contribute to their organisations and communities. With a 99% success rate, the impact continues to grow.

Australia Awards Scholarships are more than a degree. As Australia Awards Scholarships enter a new phase, the program continues to transform lives and invest in Cambodia’s people, leadership, and future. 💙

🎓 Welcoming home Cambodia’s latest changemakers! 🇰🇭👨🏻‍🎓🇦🇺✨

Studying in Australia has been a lifelong dream, and I’m truly grateful to the Australia Awards Scholarships for making it possible. It was more than earning a degree. It was also a chance to live abroad, grow personally, and develop professionally. These past two years have brought me closer to my goals and given more meaning to my journey.

At university, I enjoyed the teaching style, modern facilities, and time spent in class and the library. The friends I made, and the conferences and public lectures I attended, also played an important part in my experience. Outside the university, I came to love Australia’s nature and architecture. Travelling around the country showed me how diverse and beautiful it is.

I’m also grateful to have studied a wide range of subjects, including policy analysis, project design, public sector innovation, private-sector engagement, systems thinking, sustainability, economics, research, and strategic communication. My final research project on urban climate resilience and multi-stakeholder partnerships strengthened my analytical skills, while my social innovation class gave me hands-on experience working with industry leaders to design practical building electrification solutions towards net-zero emissions.

As I return home, I hope to use what I’ve learned in policy innovation and project management to contribute to Cambodia’s development.
