As a school student that was able to keep up with my peers and even do well in school, meant that many of my teacher’s assumptions that I was “too smart” to be dyslexic, led to years of delay in getting assessed, despite the fact that I was doing more and more hours of homework and struggling in every lesson.
This was not the fault of my teachers, as how can we blame teachers that weren’t adequately trained to identify and support the needs of struggling readers.
Early identification and intervention is crucial.
We need to ensure EVERY teacher is trained to ensure EVERY child is taught to read!

The most important social skills aren’t learned from a worksheet.. they’re learned through everyday moments at home. 🏠

The way we teach our kids to introduce themselves, handle rejection, include others, apologize, and set boundaries will shape the relationships they build for the rest of their lives.

Educators can’t count on their jobs to train them to teach literacy. They must do their own lifelong learning, seek out resources, join professional groups, attend workshops and routinely update their knowledge to stay informed.

What we learn in college and at work is just an introduction into our jobs.

We must all become lifelong learners if we are responsible to help children learn.
