When people see my photos from Europe, especially France, they see only happiness. Smiles in front of beautiful buildings, laughter on narrow streets, moments that look like a dream. Everyone thinks life abroad is all fun and adventure.

But the photos don’t show the other side, the part that is harder to explain. Studying abroad is not just about traveling; it’s about learning to live alone. Yeah sometimes you lose the comfort of your own language, and suddenly even simple conversations feel difficult. Even if your language level is quite good - B2/C1, you will get stuck sometimes. You will feel lost for sure.

Life is not always easy. The food is different, you feel lonely, you miss home, the weather can be freezing, and the time difference makes everything harder. Also, you have no friends and no family to spend a leisure time with. Even getting around a city can be confusing and Google maps is our best friend because we cannot go outside without it. All in all, everything is new for us.

Studying is a challenge too. If others walk, you have to run ten times harder just to reach the same place. Classes are in another language, and sometimes you just don’t understand what the teacher is saying or explaining. You know if there is no class, I spend a whole day in the library + self-study at home from the early evening until late night. It doesn’t mean that I am not lazy, but if I don’t do like that, I won’t reach to what classes require. Of course, it can be exhausting.

But slowly, with time and effort, I start to adapt. I grow stronger. I learn patience, courage, and independence. I realize that struggle is not just difficulty, but it is also a teacher. Every lonely moment, every mistake, every failure is shaping me, preparing me for life in ways I never imagined.

This is the real side of studying abroad — the hard, lonely, tiring side. But it is also what makes the journey unforgettable, because it shows us who we really are and how far we can go.
