Who We Are & What We Offer
Peppercorns Home School offers high quality early childhood and primary education to children in Kampot. We incorporate a combined international curriculum through play-based and thematic learning. Classes and activities currently cater for students aged 3-14 in a safe and engaging learning environment. Our programme is divided into seven levels:
Sprouts - Crèche (3-4
years)
Seedlings - Kindergarten (4-5 years)
Vines - Foundation (5-6 years)
Blossoms - Year 1 (6-7 years)
Green Peppercorns - Years 2 & 3 (7-9 years)
Red Peppercorns - Years 4 & 5 (9-11 years)
Black Peppercorns - Years 6, 7 & 8 (11-14 years)
Placement is based on an assessment of individual students’ abilities in the areas of literacy, numeracy and social skills, with age serving as a guide only. We value small class sizes with appropriate support staff to assist with tuition, group work and classroom management. Curriculum
Preschool students enjoy a play-based curriculum with learning and assessment in the areas of interpersonal development, language and literacy, reasoning and numeracy, creative arts and music, health and physical education, world/environment discovery, information technology and cultural diversity. Students gradually transition into a more formal teaching environment, retaining small classes that tailor learning to each child’s needs in order to build confidence and independence. Peppercorns places a strong emphasis on teaching children about respect, co-operation and how to think independently. Our ethos revolves around the 3 ‘Rs’ - respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment. The 3 ‘Rs’ act as guidelines for student behaviour, assisting children to show initiative and take responsibility for themselves, their actions and their surroundings. We focus on health and hygiene, manners and mindfulness, inclusiveness and acceptance, positive motivation and co-operation. All students enjoy social time together to learn about themselves, each other and the world around them. The younger children engage in explorative activities like water play, sand play, arts and crafts, reading, singing, dancing, role play and yoga. As older students enter a more structured academic programme, they continue to learn through the exploration of their surroundings, and creative activities. From Foundation onwards, students attend our full day programme, which covers primary years core curriculum work in literacy and numeracy, language studies (Khmer), science and humanities, physical education, drama/theatre, music, visual arts, home economics, and information technology. The full day programme is designed to deliver our curriculum in its appropriate scope, and adheres to our expectations of international standards of educational requirements. The afternoon classes for Foundation students are currently only available pending student enrolment. Communication & Assessment
At Peppercorns, we value communication and encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s education. Parents and caregivers are asked to provide us with a Telegram account and are added to our channel, which is used as our primary communication tool. Regular class updates are sent via this application, as well as any information relating to your child’s day, including accomplishments or minor concerns. We also use this platform to remind you about upcoming events, school holidays and any other changes at the school. The noticeboard at the entrance to the school is also updated regularly to keep you informed of the activities and themes being explored at school. Any changes in staffing are noted here, and our full school calendar is always on display. Peppercorns has a page which provides general information about the school, as well as visual updates of students’ activities and special events. Parents and caregivers are welcome to talk with our teachers on a daily basis, or whenever there are any questions or concerns. Teachers conduct individual goal setting meetings with students in Term 1, followed by progress meetings with parents and caregivers in Term 2. These give parents and teachers an opportunity to discuss ways in which each student can best be supported to encourage further growth and learning. Creative Learning Environment & Where to Find Us
Peppercorns is centrally located, 500m north of the new bridge. The school buildings are spacious and welcoming, with natural playgrounds designed to allow the students to explore their surroundings in safe and imaginative ways. Classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to stimulate the students’ creativity and promote a challenging learning space. The cottage and upstairs area of the main building are designated for primary students who are engaging in a more formal learning environment with an increasingly academic focus. We have a wonderful team of qualified and experienced educators and support staff who work together to deliver a dynamic and inspired curriculum to the students. Our thoughtful and efficient administrative team is available to assist parents and caregivers with any relevant management or financial matters. As part of our ‘Open Door’ policy, parents and caregivers are always welcome to come and ask questions or talk about ideas or concerns. Appointments can be made with administrators during office hours. Questions and feedback are important to us!
