Ambassador Wang Wenbin and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hun Manet jointly witnessed the signing of the 'Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Training of Local Chinese Language Teachers in Cambodia'.
Phnom Penh, August 14, 2025 – On August 14, 2025, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of China’s Ministry of Education and the General Secretary of the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), Mr. Kim Sotha, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Training of Local Chinese Language Teachers in Cambodia in Phnom Penh. The signing ceremony was witnessed by H.E. Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, and H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia.
Ambassador Wang Wenbin emphasized in his speech that during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April 2025, the leaders of both countries reached a consensus to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cultural and educational exchanges, promoting mutual learning among civilizations. China stands ready to work with Cambodia to implement this consensus, support the development of Chinese language teaching in Cambodia’s Confucius Institutes and other educational institutions, and encourage youth from both nations to enhance mutual understanding and friendship through language.
Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support and affirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fostering the sustainable growth of local Chinese language education, ensuring the enduring vitality of the traditional friendship between the two countries.
This memorandum marks a practical step taken by China and Cambodia to implement the leaders’ consensus and inaugurate a new chapter in educational cooperation. Going forward, China will provide comprehensive support for the high-quality development of Chinese language education in Cambodia, based on Cambodia’s needs, and encourage more outstanding graduates specializing in Chinese language to contribute to Cambodia’s educational sector, thereby consolidating and expanding the achievements of Chinese language education in the country.
