Merry Christmas from the KNU foreign language teaching department 😊

On December 12th, 2015 , The American Music Center and KNU organized The American Music Festival, a festival in which students sang American songs. The competition was judged by Kadyrbekova P.K, Dean of the Faculty for Foreign Languages, Chairman of the judge panel, Michelle Baron, Mambetova Z.K, Head of the Department of Linguistics and English Language Fellow, Steven Gomez. The aim of this competition was to raise students' interest in learning English through music. We all have a wonderful time!

Students from KNU faculty of teaching foreign languages and English Language Fellow, Steven Gomez attended an event sponsored by the US embassy and learned about the challenges that many women face in Kyrgyzstan. The goal of the event was to raise awareness to the injustice women face such as domestic violence. The US ambassador spoke about this matter and encouraged everyone to support NGOs and women's rights. It was truly a day not to be forgotten.

Attention people in Bishkek!
Mark your calanders for this upcoming festival. We would like to promote the importance of music in learning English while promoting American culture.
Students will be singing their hearts out and I will be speaking on the power of music.

May 23, 2015 "Service Learning" project which was led by English Language Fellow Bee Jenkins. Teaching staff Akunova Mahabat and Akunova Gulnara assisted in implementing ideas in this project. Students of the Foreign Language Faculty participated and contributed much effort in orphanage life. They also gained confidence in their teaching and we hope they will continue to teach with us!

Конференцияга Бишкек шаарынын жогорку окуу жайларынын окутуучулары келип катышып,өздөрүнүн докладдарын окуп,практика жүзүндө чет тилин окутуунун методикаларын жайылтып кетишти. Бул конференцияга Тынчтык корпусунана келген өкүлдөр маданият аралык баарлашуунун эн жөнөкөй мисалдарын келтирип, залдагы атмосфераны маанайын көтөрүштү. Баардыгы конференцияга 60 тан ашуун катышуучулар болду. Мыкты доклад көрсөткөн катышуучулар Америка элчилигинин китептери менен сыйланышты.

Every Saturday the Service Learning Project visits a Dzal orphanage to give free and fun English lessons to children. Children are our future!

Tomorrow KNU is hosting a conference on cross-cultural communication! Come to Building 3 at 08:30 to register for a day of fascinating talks and workshops.

Volunteer students at KNU have been getting their teaching practice and helping their community! Every Saturday the Service Learning Project visits a Dzal orphanage to give free and fun English lessons to children.

PLC concluded its spring sessions yesterday with a great session on learning styles by Zhyldyz Kadyrkulova, an information session with Natalia Djumanalieva, and a certificate ceremony with our teachers. The KNU Professional Learning Community is a professional development group FOR teachers, BY teachers. Each week colleagues share lessons, discuss best practices, and work together to find solutions to contemporary pedagogical issues. Facilitated by EL Fellow Bee Jenkins.

PLC meets Wednesdays at 16:30! Last week Inna and the two Alimas gave a great demonstration of communicative activities to promote creativity.
