During the period from 1975 until 1988 year FPI becomes leading Institute of Higher Education not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in Soviet Union.

The institute was included three times into the top 40 best Institutes of the USSR. The Frunze Polytechnic Institute (Фрунзенский политехнический институт) was founded in 1954 and it is now The Kyrgyz State Technical University (Кыргыз техникалык университети/Киргизский технический университет) named after Iskhak Razzakov is a university in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (Formerly known as Frunze, KSSR, USSR).

The first group of foreign students arrived in Frunze in 1978 from Republic Cuba. From there on, the University prepared more than 1000 engineers for the countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America: China, India, Nepal, Shri Lanka, Laos, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Sudan, Algeria, Tanzania, Congo, Senegal, Cuba, Bolivia, etc.
