Wajir Teachers Training College, in collaboration with Wajir Peace and Development and the Muslim Education Council (MEC), successfully organized an Education Stakeholders’ Workshop on the Integration of Duksi and Madrasa into the Formal Education System in Kenya.
The workshop was held following the announcement by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, during the 2026 Madaraka Day celebrations held at Wajir Stadium on 1st June 2026, where he directed the integration of Duksi and Madrasa education into Kenya’s formal education system.
The primary objective of the workshop was to sensitize stakeholders and create awareness of the Government’s policies on the integration programme, while also seeking their views, support, and recommendations to ensure the successful implementation of this important national initiative.
The workshop brought together a wide range of education and community stakeholders, including representatives from the SUPKEM Wajir Branch, the Council of Imams and Preachers – Wajir, directors of private education providers, women professionals, heads of Madrasas and Duksis, representatives from the County Education Office, and officials from the Ministry of Education.
The forum provided an opportunity for participants to deliberate on the proposed integration framework, identify opportunities and challenges, and strengthen collaboration among religious institutions, education providers, community leaders, and government agencies. Participants expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative and working together to ensure that the integration programme enhances access to quality, inclusive, and culturally responsive education for learners across Wajir County and Kenya at large.
