Voi Secondary School Voi Secondary school started in 1964 as a school for Indian Children at the current Mwanyambo Primar It has become very useful. Funds. Wekesa. Bhangwaji D.

Voi Secondary school started in 1964 as a school for Indian Children at the current Mwanyambo Primary school grounds before it was moved to the present large compound. In the new ground it became Voi Harambee Secondary School, especially after the government came in and laid the foundation stone on 26/08/1966. Later the school became one Government boy’s stream and a mixed Harambee stream. At the

time of the foundation laying – the following buildings came up –

· Kitchen / Dining Hall complex.

· Government classrooms 1 – 4.

· Harambee block 1 – 4.

· Chemistry laboratory.

· Two boys dormitories

· One teacher’s house. The school has grown to become three streams: two boy’s streams and one girls’ stream of provincial school with a population of 580 students. In 1987 – the school introduced A – level class for two years which ended in 1989. The present form 4 block was donated by an Indian parent called Roshan. He came with his materials and his own workmen and constructed it. This donation opened room for the school to have two empty classrooms which one or the head teachers converted into laboratories. The present administration block was constructed / built with the help of the late Hon. Bonface Mghanga – the BOG Chairman by then. As a member of parliament the late Hon. Mghanga helped to construct a deputy principal’s house using C.D.F. The school has 26 members of staff and 22 support staff headed by the Principal Mr. Voi Secondary School is facing a number of challenges which include:-

Old buildings with rusted roofs / building need facelift. A small dining hall of 120 students being used by 580 students. Insufficient water supply though borehole survey has been done. Few teachers’ houses make it difficult for prep supervision. The school now needs 4 – 6 more houses. Voi Secondary School has no library. The class rooms converted into laboratories is not spacious for. 40 students doing experiments. The school has been headed by the following head teachers.

ü Mr. Joseph Musimba 1971 – 1977

ü Mr. Joseph Mwawasi 1977 – 1979

ü Mr. Abdul Nganje 1979 – 1980

ü Mr. Gibran Mwaita 1980 – 1988

ü Mr. Austin Mlawi 1988 – 1992

ü Mr. Solomon Mwabili 1992 – 1992

ü Mr. Elijah Mwashighadi 1992 – 1997

ü Mr. Emmanuel Wekesa 1997 – now.
