STATEMENT FROM ICT Fire & Rescue
ICT Fire & Rescue is deeply saddened by the tragic dormitory fire incident at Utumishi Girls High School in Gilgil, which reportedly claimed the lives of several students and left others injured during the emergency evacuation.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families who have lost their loved ones, the injured students, the school community, and all those affected by this devastating tragedy. No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child in such circumstances.
We also acknowledge and commend the efforts of emergency responders, firefighters, medical personnel, police officers, and all agencies currently involved in the rescue, evacuation, and investigation operations.
This unfortunate incident serves as a painful reminder of the urgent need for all educational institutions to prioritize fire safety, emergency preparedness, disaster management planning, and regular evacuation drills. Schools must ensure that dormitories and learning facilities are adequately equipped with functional fire detection systems, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, alarm systems, trained personnel, and clear emergency response procedures.
At ICT Fire & Rescue, we continue to advocate for proactive fire prevention measures, professional emergency response training, and increased awareness within schools and institutions across the country to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
We stand in solidarity with the affected families and the entire Utumishi Girls High School community during this difficult time.
