The school sits on top of a hill fondly referred to as Got K`Orengo (Orengo's hill) in reference to Rev. Pleydell (Bwana Orengo), one of the pioneer missionaries and founders of the school. This position gives a good panoramic view of the serene surrounding villages of Mur, Kogelo, Kathomo as well as Siaya town. The foundation stone of the institution as a primary school was laid on 6th October 19

23. The School then became a girls` secondary school in 1962 and admitted the first form one students who sat their “O” level exams in 1965. The old Ng’iya Girls` Intermediate was phased out from the hill to a next door ground offered by the education conscious Mur clan. At the end of 1968, the St John`s Teacher Training College which had been started by A. J Mayor in 1965 was phased out and its buildings given over to the secondary section. The school enrolled the first A Level science class in 1971 and went on to have both Science and Arts A Level classes until the system was phased out in 1989.In 2010 the school was identified as one of the centres of Excellence and as a consequence became a beneficiary of the Economic Stimulus Programme under the Ministry of Finance. With this package, the Board of Governors commissioned the construction of a multimillion shilling complex that would put the whole school administrative offices and learning rooms in one place once complete. In 2012 the school was officially promoted to national school status and therefore would admit the first students under such arrangement in 2013.

Happy Madaraka Day!

As Alumnae, we celebrate the remarkable women who continue to break barriers and step forward to serve society with courage, vision, and integrity.

We are especially proud to have not one, but two Nyangiya vying for the position of Women Representative for Siaya County in the 2027 General Elections. Their willingness to offer themselves for leadership is a testament to the values, resilience, and excellence nurtured within our alma mater.

While they may be competitors on the ballot, they remain sisters united by a common foundation and a shared commitment to service. Whatever the outcome, we are confident that a Nyangiya will represent Siaya County, and that alone is a victory worth celebrating.

We wish all our Alumnae seeking leadership positions wisdom, strength, and grace as they pursue their aspirations.

Meet Hope wambui a young changemaker using the power of poetry to inspire hope, drive social change, and champion environmental conservation.

Raised in the heart of Kibera, Hope has refused to let her circumstances define her future. Instead, she is breaking barriers and proving that purpose, passion, and determination can overcome any obstacle.

As a dedicated Period Champion, she advocates for menstrual dignity and empowerment for girls. Through her poetry, she shares messages of hope while mobilizing communities towards the global mission of planting thousands of trees and protecting our planet for future generations.

At such a tender age, Hope is already making a remarkable impact and inspiring others to dream bigger, rise higher, and serve their communities with courage.

Thank you, Madam Esther Amondi, for organizing such a meaningful event in celebration of the girl child while also creating an opportunity for the school community to support the Welfare Department under your dedicated leadership.

Special appreciation goes to the Chief Principal - Hellen Masengeli for her generous contribution, the Alumnae who attended and donated towards the cause, and the students who willingly shared supplies with their fellow learners. Your kindness, generosity, and commitment have made a significant impact and are truly appreciated.
