As per a now-established tradition, Kiriti Primary School held its annual thanksgiving-cum-prizegiving on January 18, 2020.
This year, the event was even more colourful because it was graced by the area MP, Hon. James Gichuhi (Wakili) who also officially opened the newly-built Administration Block, amidst colour and pomp. The Admin Block was built entirely through the Tetu CDF It is a beautiful building that comprises a Headteacher's office, a Deputy Headteacher's office, a spacious staff room, a boardroom for meetings, a pantry and toilet facilities.
The day was marked by song and dance from early morning, even before the arrival of Hon. Wakili. The parents and also the pupils really got down to some very entertaining music courtesy of the day's deejay.
When Hon. Wakili arrived, he was given a rousing welcome by the parents, teachers, pupils and BoM members. He immediately opened the new Admin Block and signed the visitors book in the Headteacher's new office.
Then followed an interlude of entertainment by the pupils, in the form of dances, a skit and a poem. The parents were not to be outdone as they had a very entertaining song/dance presented by a section of them.
Rev. Marine was then at hand with the message of the day about wisdom (Proverbs 23:23).
Then followed remarks by the PTA chair, the BoM chair, the Headteacher, the area subchief, the Assistant County Commissioner and the climax was the speech by the Chief Guest Hon. Wakili. who very well articulated his many achievements so far in terms of promoting education all the way from primary school, secondary school and even tertiary institutions, by way of the Tetu CDF. This support has been through infrastructure development and improvement and also bursaries. Hon Wakili then very graciously made his personal donation of a variety of textbooks spanning all the classes.
The teacher in charge of standards, Mrs Njagi, then took all in attendance through the academic performance of the school, with a keen interest in the 2019 KCPE. The 56 candidates had performed well, with the top three scoring above 350 marks. The mean score was just above 261.
What followed was the recognition of the top performers in the 2019 KCPE by way of prizes. And in keeping with what was started last year, the focus is on an all-round pupil meaning that not just academic performance was recognized - even top performers in other disciplines like sports and music were recognized, and Kiriti has also been excelling in the same, taking some pupils to very high levels notably in shot put and volleyball (national level).
It had been a day well-spent, and the Kiriti Primary School family wishes to thank Hon. Wakili and his CDF team most heartily for all the support this far.
A lot still needs to be done with regard to the infrastructure. For a start, there is an urgent need for new desks for all the 8 classes since the current ones are in a sorry state. But with further support from the CDF as well as support from old boys and girls and other friends of Kiriti Primary, we can go a long way in making the school a centre of excellence.
