The University Council, Management, staff, students, and the entire Laikipia University community join the family of Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, the University of Nairobi, and the nation in mourning the passing of Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, former Chancellor of the University of Nairobi and its first woman Chancellor.

Dr. Rattansi will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to education and her remarkable generosity in supporting deserving students through scholarships and bursaries, a legacy that positively impacted countless lives, including many within the Laikipia University community.

Her compassion, visionary leadership, and dedication to expanding access to education will continue to inspire generations to come.

Laikipia University Celebrates Prof. Robert Mwebi's Election to National Leadership Role

Laikipia University proudly congratulates Prof. Robert Mwebi, Registrar (Academic Affairs), on his election as an Executive Board Member of the Forum of Academic Registrars of Kenyan Universities (FARKU), where he will represent Kenya's public universities.

The election took place during the FARKU forum held at Chuka University, which brought together Academic Registrars from both public and private universities across the country to deliberate on matters affecting higher education and academic administration.

Prof. Mwebi's election is a significant recognition of his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to advancing academic excellence. It also reflects the growing confidence in Laikipia University's contribution to strengthening higher education and shaping the future of university education in Kenya.

In his new national leadership role, Prof. Mwebi will contribute to policy discussions on academic affairs, quality assurance, institutional collaboration, and best practices that enhance the quality and competitiveness of Kenya's universities. His representation of public universities will help amplify their perspectives in national decision-making.

Laikipia University continues to strengthen strategic partnerships that support quality learning and sustainable development.

Today, the University hosted Mr. Kennedy Kurgat from the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency, representing the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, for a strategic engagement on enhancing water supply at the University.

Welcomed by the Chairperson of the University Council, Dr. Lemein Korei, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kibett Rotich, the delegation held discussions on the University's growing student population and the increasing demand for reliable water services. The Vice-Chancellor requested the Ministry's support in drilling three boreholes, with the University and the County Government having already identified suitable sites.

In a significant boost to the initiative, Mr. Kurgat affirmed the Ministry's commitment to support the drilling of the three boreholes, noting that the project aligns with the Ministry's mandate.

The delegation later toured the proposed borehole sites and participated in a symbolic tree-planting exercise, reaffirming a shared commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation.

This partnership marks another important milestone in Laikipia University's efforts to enhance essential infrastructure, improve students' welfare, and create a conducive environment for teaching, learning, research, and innovation.

Laikipia University successfully concluded its inaugural Academic Open Week 2026, held from 20th–24th July 2026, reaffirming our commitment to student-centred service, academic excellence, and parental engagement.

Throughout the week, students, parents, and guardians accessed academic advising, fee support, counselling, ICT assistance, career guidance, and a wide range of administrative services—all under one roof. The initiative strengthened collaboration across departments, resolved long-standing academic concerns, and reinforced our commitment to accessible, efficient, and responsive service delivery.
