If you’ve been keen enough, you must have realised that such directives come every week that precedes the school opening week.
Unfortunately, they just remain directives with no one bothered about them.
So, why can’t we adhere to them?
Largely, the government is to blame. It has failed to ensure that public schools, especially primary offer quality education.
This has led to the rise of private schools which are viewed by many parents as the only way they can provide quality education for their children.
To ensure the produce results that can help them market their schools and attract more customers (parents), they have come up with several ways;
1. Covering the syllabus at least by term two of every academic year.
For this to be achieved, extended time is needed and so, most schools have adjusted their time, that’s starting early, finishing late or even including weekends (Saturday and or Sunday).
2. Offering transportation to and from school.
Transportation to and from school allows the school to adjust time. They can start early and finish late since they will conveniently pick and drop the learners home in school buses.
So, if the government through the ministry of education wants the directive followed to the letter, then it must ensure sanity is restored in the public schools and win the public trust.
By so doing, parents will not be forced to run to private schools to get quality education for their children. But what do I know?
