Nasaru Primary School was founded in Kenya by Daniel Kudate with the aim of improving the Maasai’s quality of life through education. The Maasai are a nomadic tribe who have only recently accepted educating their youth. The school has 120 students who range from four to sixteen years old. Classes include English, Math and Science as well as Swahili, Kenya’s native language. The students come from
very poor areas and many are undernourished and lack proper shoes and supplies. The school provides food for the children but has continued to struggle financially. There are no exercise books or worksheets so the students must learn from simply repeating what is on the chalkboard out loud. The library is entirely empty and the school is running out of basic supplies such as pencils,pens and erasers. After teaching at Nasaru for a month, I was truly amazed by what the school was able to accomplish with such little resources. The potential is undeniable and with the support of donated workbooks, children’s novels and supplies the students will be able to reach a whole new level of education. The donations will be shipped directly to the school and managed by local staff.
