From Theory to Action: Practical Conservation in East Africa!

At our regional Training-of-Trainers workshop hosted at Elsamere, educators and practitioners from Kenya and Uganda gained real-world skills to lead environmental change in their communities.

A highlight of the training was the session on circular economy and waste management led by Dr. Charles Kariuki from Africa Nazarene University. To bring these concepts to life, the participants took part in hands-on practical sessions conducted right on-site at KMEG, learning actionable techniques for upcycling and recycling glass and plastic bottles!

By combining classroom insights with field practicals at KMEG, we are equipping trainers with proven, scalable models for sustainable waste management.

Hands-on learning, green projects, and teacher empowerment at Elsamere!

Another incredible day is in the books at the East Africa Training of Trainers Conference in Naivasha! Our delegates spent the day tackling practical environmental solutions, curriculum integration, and student wellness. 🎓

Here are the key highlights from today’s sessions:

Community Upcycling with KMEG: We started off with an inspiring site visit to KMEG CBO, seeing firsthand how waste management and upcycling can transform communities.

Green School Governance: Mr. Anam from Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK) shared practical ways to implement the Whole School Environment approach and overcome common project obstacles.

Student Mental Health First: Florence Njeri facilitated an eye-opening session on identifying mental health challenges in learners and the critical role educators play in early support.

SDG Action with WCU: Guidance for school patrons on launching and running impactful environmental clubs and projects.

Wildlife & Conservation Education: Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Uwec-Entebbe Zoo) delivered valuable insights on biodiversity protection and managing human-wildlife coexistence.

Energy & Future Infrastructure: A great presentation by KenGen highlighting the importance of renewable energy in sustainable development.

4 Days. 1 Shared Mission: Caring for the Earth and People!

Day 1 of the East Africa Training of Trainers Conference is officially locked in at the Elsamere Centre for Education in Sustainability!

Our General Manager, David Ndungu, officially opened the 4-day regional workshop, welcoming teachers, patrons, and environmental trainers from across East Africa to Naivasha for a transformative week dedicated to creating awareness, changing attitudes, and encouraging action.

Here is a glimpse of what our delegates are tackling over this packed 4-day program:

Sustainable Development & Circular Economy: Waste management, circular economy principles, and a hands-on tour of the KMEG Waste Recycling Centre.

Wildlife & Biodiversity: Expert-led sessions on elephant conservation with Mara Elephant Project (MEP), raptor protection with the Kenya Birds of Prey Trust, and marine biodiversity strategies.
