The Repository Management Workshop for Systems Librarians kicked off today at Boma Inn, Nairobi.

The three-day workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of librarians in modern repository management and metadata curation, equipping them with the skills to enhance research visibility, improve digital knowledge management, and increase the discoverability of institutional research outputs.

The workshop is sponsored by UbuntuNet Alliance under its project, "Unlocking Potential: Elevating Open Institutional Repositories in Africa for Global Impact," which is supported by Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI).

The rapid rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has sparked one of the biggest conversations in education in recent years. While some educators worry that tools such as ChatGPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs) could undermine academic integrity or diminish critical thinking, others see an unprecedented opportunity to redefine how teaching and learning take place.

Seeking to contribute to this growing pool of knowledge, Dr. Benson Kituku, Dean, School of Computer Science and IT at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, embarked on a research project titled, 'Supporting Active Learning and Creativity in Computer Science Using a Large Language Model.' The project was supported by a Ksh. 1.5 million Kenet Education Technology (EdTech) Innovation Grant awarded in the 2023/2024 Financial Year.

Kenet participated in the 17th Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Annual Meeting and Conference at Argyle Grand Hotel Nairobi held under the theme "Powering the Future of Higher Education in East Africa through Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations.”

The Conference brought together more than 400 Policymakers, University Leaders, Higher Education Regulators, Researchers and Innovators, Students and Youth Innovators, Industry Representatives, and Development Partners from East Africa to discuss the transformation of higher education in the region.

The event was presided over by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala.
