I was reviewing the standoff between the teachers’ representatives (Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET)) and the Government, regarding the 50-60 percent increment of salaries to the teachers. In their appeal against the ruling by the industrial court that teachers should be awarded the salary increment, the Attorney General made a submission that made me ponder on what exactly informs our decision. Is it misconceptions, information or knowledge?
According to the AG, the Kenyan population have been deceived that the Treasury stores money and therefore whenever it is needed all you have to do is to make a call. This is what guided the Industrial Court in ordering the Government to pay teachers their increased salaries immediately.
