We join the world in celebrating children today, reminded that every child is born with rights: to be protected, to learn, to be heard, and to dream. Driven by our vision of a world where every child has the chance to reach their full potential, at the Aga Khan University Institute for Human Development, we strongly advocate for children’s rights and develop initiatives that are geared towards advancing children’s wellbeing.

Inclusive Early Childhood Development (ECD) is vital in ensuring all children have access to quality early childhood education and care. In line with our efforts to promote inclusive ECD, this week, we are delivering our Disability-Inclusive ECD Course to professionals from various civil society organizations who are delivering ECD services in Isiolo, Lamu, Samburu, Marsabit, Tana River and Garissa counties.
Supported by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the course is designed to empower participants to create more inclusive and supportive environments for children with disabilities.

💙 In Kenya’s informal settlements, many women face depression, anxiety, and trauma—yet mental health services are scarce.

The Aga Khan University Institute for Human Development commemorates the International Day of Care and Support 2025, celebrating everyone who gives, receives, or enables care. Through our CARE FOR ALL Project (Catalyzing Care Innovations in Marginalized and Vulnerable Communities of Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands), we are working in Isiolo and Lamu to value, redistribute, and support unpaid and informal care networks alongside formal systems, helping women and girls strengthen their economic capacity. Let’s continue building care systems where every role is valued and supported for healthier families, communities, and nations.
