HR and marketing rarely share a room. Last Friday, they did. HR Box Africa and ISA Africa brought together leaders from both worlds for a two-part session on one of the most urgent questions facing organisations today.

How do you win with talent in the AI era? A fireside chat opened the conversation, covering AI adoption in marketing teams, focusing on capability, structure, and what real readiness looks like.

A structured debate followed, tackling whether organisations should upskill existing teams or bring in AI-ready hires. The room landed on several truths. Competence matters more than hype.

Marketing fundamentals still outweigh the tools. And loading multiple roles onto one person with an AI subscription is not a strategy. It is a burnout plan.

This was the first session of our partnership with HRBOX Africa. More conversations are coming. Because it turns out, the people who build teams and the people who build brands have more to say to each other.

So, have you picked a side yet? Team upskilling or hiring?

Wait, when was the last time you had a good debate?

Skip the football & politics banter on WhatsApp groups.

Had one for the books last Friday! The conversation was around hiring new talent vs. upskilling the marketing team.

Top HR leaders gave us their two cents, and we had a great intellectual exchange.

Even in the AI era, you still need talent to win; Africa cosigns!

Thank you for showing up! More to come.

Women are the backbone of society.

In Kenya, 93% of women are considering or running businesses! Unfortunately, 70% of women-owned SMEs lack access to training and skills support to grow. (IFC, Women-Owned SMEs in Kenya).

Sunlight Kenya stepped in to fill the gap through the 2024 Shika More na Sunlight campaign, which empowered women in informal businesses.

Sunlight stepped in as a partner in women’s hustle and progress.

Over 15,437 codes were entered to register for the financial literacy programme.

Economic empowerment is at the heart of societal impact. Want to stand out as a brand? Women need more than flowers and chocolate in March.

It's not about riding on their wave for visibility but impacting their lives in a way that proves you care. This is sustainable marketing done well in a local context.
