Refined sugar can have several effects on the body, especially when consumed in excess.

1. Blood Sugar Spikes: Refined sugar, such as table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing a rapid spike in blood glucose levels. This can lead to an initial burst of energy, followed by a crash, which may leave you feeling tired or irritable.

2. Increased Risk of Obesity: High sugar consumption is often linked to weight gain, as refined sugar is high in calories but lacks essential nutrients. Excess sugar is stored in the body as fat, which can contribute to obesity over time.

3. Insulin Resistance and Type 2 Diabetes: Over time, frequent sugar consumption can lead to insulin resistance, where the body's cells become less responsive to insulin. This condition is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes.

4. Inflammation and Heart Disease: Diets high in sugar have been linked to chronic inflammation, which is a risk factor for heart disease. Excess sugar can also lead to higher triglyceride levels and increased risk of hypertension, both of which contribute to heart problems.

5. Dental Health: Sugar is a primary contributor to tooth decay. Bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar, producing acids that erode tooth enamel, leading to cavities.

6. Liver Damage: Excessive consumption of fructose (a component of refined sugar) can lead to fatty liver disease. The liver processes fructose, and when consumed in high amounts, it can lead to fat buildup in the liver, potentially causing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

7. Addiction-like Effects: Studies suggest that sugar may have addictive properties, leading to cravings and a cycle of overeating. This is due to sugar triggering the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, in the brain.

8. Impact on Mental Health: Some studies have linked high sugar intake to increased risk of mood disorders such as depression. The rapid fluctuations in blood sugar can contribute to irritability, mood swings, and even symptoms of anxiety.

9. Nutrient Deficiency: Consuming large amounts of refined sugar can displace more nutritious foods from your diet, leading to deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals.

To mitigate these effects, it is generally recommended to limit the intake of added sugars and focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins for better overall health.

REASON WHY PEOPLE DELAY OR AVOID MEDICAL CARE
INTRODUCTION
Health seeking is the process of getting personal help from a health professional or medical care.
MAIN SECTION
This behaviour has some influence. According to the textbook Jane Ogden, the biomedical state that help-seeking is related to how people perceive the following
1. Symptoms — for example, one may think" I have abdomen pain it might be indigestion so it will resolve itself” while another might think that “It can be cancer, and they need to seek help”
2. Sign — the examination done by health professionals may find something
The symptoms and signs may not simply lead to health-seeking behavior until a threshold is reached such as perceptions like bodily data, mood, cognition and social context.
Nevertheless, some barriers can hinder visiting healthcare professionals which include
1) time constraints- time off work, time to transportation to medical care.
2) availability- limited availability of health care within the vicinity, limited bilingual health care and certified interpreters.
3)acceptability- fear of embarrassment from physical examination and disclosure of private information.
3) medication-side effects of medication and some people don't like taking pills.
According to research done by Taber et al. there are also three main factors attributed to why people delay or avoid medical care
1) unfavourable evaluation of seeking medical care such as a physician, healthy care organization and affective concern
2) low perceived need to seek medical care such as symptoms may improve shortly.
3) traditional barriers to medical care such as high cost, no health insurance and time constraints.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO DELAY HEALTH SEEKING AND POSSIBLE SOLUTION.
Postponing medical care can lead to worsening conditions and later presenting at the hospital when it can't be cured or controlled. For example, many people who were diagnosed with bowel cancer come late stage even after 5 years of appearing the symptoms textbook Ogden.
Some people seek help from friends and spiritual persons or herbalists, which when found in vain will later present health care.
Most diseases and ailments tend to be manageable/cured at early stages.
SOLUTION
1) awareness and knowledge about symptoms and sign
2) good medical consultation that encourages help-seeking behaviour.
3) fostering community participation will encourage health-seeking behaviour.
4) bridging capital and supporting those who lack health care.
5) policy directive to enhance population health, reduce inequality and improve social justice.
