Little Ray of Hope school is currently located in two small apartments in the heart of the Kawangware slum in Nairobi, Kenya. We provide some of the poorest children in the area with two meals a day, a warm welcoming and safe environment as well as a bridging education to allow them to easily assimilate into a formal school once they have been sponsored. Little Ray of Hope staff in Nairobi are wor
king on the ground with the children who will grow up to be the face of Kenya. These children need an education to get there, and we are supporting them to get to that stage. Education is so vital because with it, children can better their lives by creating more job opportunities. Educated children learn the power of supporting themselves, being responsible and making positive choices. The advantages of education are endless. We are continuing to be able to serve our kids lunch every day whilst they are at Little Ray of Hope - as we all know, learning on an empty stomach is difficult at the best of times. The children receive porridge for morning tea as well as a hot lunch, which may be something simple such as rice and beans, but it is nourishing and sustains them for the day. We continue our quest to have sponsors for our children so they will have the same gifts many of us have been fortunate to have: an education, at least two meals a day and healthcare when it’s required. Our ultimate aim is to purchase a plot of land and build our own school for the children, so that we can educate the children in a place that is truly their own, until they are of age to go to primary school.
