Meet the robot these teachers built and programmed themselves just after their first week of Classworks TechQuest training. 🎉 From their first "hello world" to their first decision block, these teachers pushed through the trial and error of debugging to get their robot moving exactly as they planned, and now they are ready to share that knowledge with their learners.

Coding and robotics, from zero. This cohort of teachers had never touched a line of code or a robot before this week, and by day's end they were building fully automated robots 🤖. Level 1 of TechQuest welcomed 12 teachers from 6 new schools across Nairobi, who took the first step toward equipping learners with the digital skills the future demands.

Some schools have everything they need to give their students a great education, and then there are those with the potential, but not enough resources to unlock it.
For Doc Dyn Dream, a small school in the remote village of Matunda, Kakamega County, the goal was simple: raise KSh 130,000 to support their journey towards better digital learning. The community came together and raised what they could and through DEAN’s crowdfunding model, we matched their contribution with support from our partners. Through these efforts, Doch Dyn Dream has joined over 500 schools that now benefit from DEAN's two-year ICT integration and digital transformation program.
The teachers had the opportunity to go through Level 1 Classworks Foundation training, gaining practical digital skills they could take back into their classrooms. The school also received 15 tablets and keyboards, as well as the Elimupi server, which will provide offline, open-source content for their learners.

These teachers walked into this training still finding their footing with robotics in the classroom. They're walking out with certificates and a completely different set of tools. These are the 13 educators from 8 Nairobi schools who just completed TechQuest Level 2, the final stage of the program. They now have a full understanding of how robotics and coding work within CBE and the confidence to help learners build fully automated systems of their own. Back in April, these teachers began their journey with TechQuest Level 1. This August, they returned for Level 2 building on what they had already learned and taking their skills further. Now, they leave with new knowledge in robotics, coding, automated systems integration and the practical application of technology within CBE, along with the confidence to take these skills back to their learners.

During the CLASSworks TechQuest Level 2 training, teachers worked in teams to apply their skills in robotics, coding and systems integration to develop fully automated systems responding to challenges they identified within their communities. From an automated gate to an automated hanging line, the projects were more than just technical builds. They were an opportunity to think critically, collaborate, design and explore how technology can be used to solve everyday problems.

This is the kind of learning needed in CBE, where learners don't just learn how systems work, but learn to identify problems, build solutions and create impact.

This past week, 13 teachers from 8 Nairobi schools completed the final stage of their TechQuest journey. They learned to integrate full systems for automation, explored game development using Scratch, practised interdisciplinary lesson planning and studied how to connect robotics to other subject areas. By the end of the training, they'd put it all into practice by identifying real community problems and designing automated systems to solve them. Watch the week unfold. 🎥

Many schools are still conflicted on where to start when it comes to bringing robotics into their classrooms, and that is exactly what TechQuest is addressing. From 11th to 14th August, 13 teachers from 8 schools across Nairobi came together in Nairobi for TechQuest Level 2. Over four days, they moved from systems integration to game development, from learner-centred teaching methods to interdisciplinary lesson planning building the skills to bring robotics into everyday learning.
