Alumni Portal : https://alumni.rti.ac.ke/ With a legacy of excellence spanning over six decades, established on June 29, 1956, Railway Training Institute (RTI) originally served as a dedicated skill development center for the staff of the East African Railways and Harbours (EAR&H). Following the dissolution of the East African Community in 1976, the Institute was integrated into the Kenya Railways Corporation, where it continued to provide specialized railway training. A pivotal transformation occurred in 1990 when RTI opened its doors to the general public, expanding its curriculum to include Engineering and Business courses from Certificate, Diploma, and Higher Diploma levels. This sustained growth is driven by our commitment to delivering high-quality courses, supported by excellent training facilities and infrastructure. To maintain our competitive edge and fulfill our mandate, we have embarked on a strategic expansion program aimed at transforming the Institute into a premier regional center for Rail, Marine, Transport, and Logistics training. Through the continuous upgrading of our Campus infrastructure, the operationalization of marine training at RTI Kisumu Campus, and the integration of modern technology, RTI continues to set the standard for training, research, and innovation.

Today, we were engaging with a delegation of 13 academic staff members from Our Lady of Mercy Vocational Training Centre (OLMVTC), led by Sr. Christine, Operational Coordinator. The visiting team was warmly received by our leadership, including Mr. Livingstone Andafu, Deputy Director of Research, Innovation, Business, and Marketing; Madam Karen Wabomba, Academic Registrar; and Mr. James Nyaga, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Driven by a shared mission to enhance vocational training standards, the session provided a platform to exchange best practices in technical education and institutional management.

Throughout the session, Sr. Christine and her team engaged with us on critical areas such as NITA, KNEC, and CBET curriculum delivery and assessment, alongside practical workshop organization, safety protocols, and tools management. We also explored strategies for strengthening industry linkages, managing student attachments, and driving enrollment, retention and discipline.

By observing our operational approaches firsthand, the delegation gained invaluable insights to support CBET implementation and elevate training delivery at their own center.
