Today, the Kenya Film School fraternity, joined by colleagues from the Department of Film Services and former KFS Director Mrs. Rose Ochieng, visited Ngerenyi Village in Taita Taveta County to stand in solidarity with their colleague, Ms. Elizabeth Mwashigadi, and her family as they honored and celebrated the life of her daughter, Giovanna.
The delegation, led by Mr. Otieno Sije, also conveyed heartfelt messages of condolence from the Director of the Department of Film Services, Mr. Noah Otiende.
It was a deeply moving moment of unity, reflection, and shared grief, as the team came together to offer comfort, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Ag. Director of Kenya Film School, Mr. Otieno Sije, alongside Ag. Deputy Director of Film Services, Minnie Ponda, today led a technical team to inspect the Uriri Film Hub in Uriri Constituency ahead of its official launch.
The visit forms part of ongoing preparations for the rollout of key capacity-building programs scheduled for April 2026. The team assessed the readiness of the facility to host a series of masterclass trainings targeting local filmmakers, music producers, actors, and other creatives within the region.
The upcoming programs will focus on Film Production, Music Production, and Drama, equipping participants with practical skills, hands-on experience, and industry knowledge necessary to thrive in the creative economy.
The Uriri Film Hub is expected to serve as a critical platform for nurturing local talent, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for young creatives to transform their passion into sustainable livelihoods.

Kenya Film School Staff Convene for Annual Academic Review to Chart Strategic Direction 2026–2031
Staff of the Kenya Film School (KFS) have convened at the Dairy Training Institute for their annual academic review forum, a high-level engagement focused on strategic planning, curriculum enhancement, and institutional development frameworks aimed at positioning the School to meet international standards in film and media training.
The forum brought together academic and administrative staff to deliberate on the development of the Kenya Film School Strategic Plan 2026–2031 and a concept note for the long-term development of the institution, alongside strengthening the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
The session was led by the Director of Kenya Film School, Mr. Otieno Sije, who emphasized the need for a structured, future-oriented roadmap to guide the School’s growth.
“The Strategic Plan 2026–2031 will define our priorities in training, infrastructure, governance, and industry linkages. Coupled with the Competency-Based Education curriculum, this will ensure our graduates are skilled, adaptable, and competitive both locally and internationally,” Mr. Sije said.
Addressing the forum, the Secretary for Youth Affairs, Mr. George Mbogo, underscored the critical role of Kenya Film School in advancing the government’s creative economy and youth empowerment agenda.
“The creative sector remains a key pillar for youth employment and innovation. Kenya Film School must continue to align its training with national development priorities, global trends, and the needs of young creatives. The Ministry fully supports initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity and quality training,” Mr. Mbogo noted.
The Director of Administration, Mr. Kennedy Kimuyu, highlighted the importance of sound governance, efficient resource management, and supportive administrative systems in delivering the School’s mandate.
