The Horn International Institute for Strategic Studies in collaboration with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, hosted a one-day symposium titled "Situating the Non-Military Players in the Sudan Conflict: Assessing Their Role in the Post-Conflict Reconstruction of Sudan" on May 29, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya. The symposium aimed to conduct a comprehensive mapping and analysis of non-military actors in , focusing on their roles, challenges, opportunities, and needs in peacebuilding. It also sought to evaluate humanitarian intervention approaches for displaced persons in Sudan, facilitating their early return and active participation in the reconstruction of the state. Additionally, the event aimed to facilitate strategic dialogue and collaboration among non-military actors and other stakeholders to enhance coordination and effectiveness in Sudan's peacebuilding efforts.

The event brought together representatives from Sudanese professional associations, international stakeholders including diplomatic representatives, civil society leaders and activists, as well as academics, researchers, and experts in Sudanese affairs and conflict resolution.
