KNQA ENGAGES NCIA ON REGISTRATION OF TRAINING PROGRAMMES

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) held a consultative meeting with the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA), investigative training institution under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations - DCI, to deliberate on the registration and accreditation of the Academy’s training programmes under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF).

The meeting, held at the NCIA offices, built upon ongoing institutional engagements regarding the registration of identified NCIA qualifications onto the Framework. The KNQA delegation, led by Deputy Director, Mr. James Tegeret, provided technical guidance on the statutory requirements for programme registration and accreditation, reviewing the legal instruments establishing NCIA, alongside evidence of its accreditation as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution as well as guiding the NCIA through a step-by-step accreditation process, and an interactive plenary session to address technical and compliance queries.

Speaking during the forum, Mr. Tegeret reiterated KNQA’s commitment to supporting public and specialized institutions in aligning their qualifications with national and international quality standards.

NCIA Commandant, Mr. Ibrahim Jillo, welcomed KNQA's support, noting that aligning their programmes with the KNQF is a strategic milestone toward professionalizing criminal investigations training and expanding the reach and recognition of the Academy’s graduates.

The KNQA is this week participating at the East African Community (EAC) partner states workshop on validation of the draft EAC TVET Qualifications Framework, in Dar es Salaam.

The workshop is convened by the East African Community Secretariat with the support of the International Labour Organization and the African Continental Qualifications Framework (ACQF-II) Team represented by Mr. Robin Phoolchund. The Partner states include: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Somalia.

The workshop aims at advancing the harmonization of TVET systems across the EAC Partner States. The need for a robust EAC TVET Qualifications Framework is driven by the need to facilitate free movement of labour and enhance skills mobility thus improving employability in line with the EAC Common Market Protocol (particularly Article 11 on the harmonization and mutual recognition of academic and professional qualifications).

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026

Theme: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.

Young people may come from different backgrounds and face different realities, but they all share common aspirations for acquiring relevant skills and a sustainable future.
